If you haven't changed the oil and filter in your transmission for a long time, this could be the problem. Over time, the filter plugs up just from normal wear, and the pressure drops in your transmission, because it is harder for the oil to go through the clogged filter. Dirty oil is also more likely to make valves in the transmission stick or slow to move, which, again, is worse in cold weather. You should change both the oil and filter, and when you do, dump the oil into a clean container so that you can see if there is anything other than fine material from normal wear in the pan.

repost with codes and you will recieve the help you want... the systems monitered by the light are all directly related to a running engine. turning over slowly could be battery or starter (cold weather does affect battery charges).

How old is your battery, belt tensioner and belt?

A battery service life is able 48 to 58 months. A weak battery will cause electrical item to malfunction. (check for 12.6 to 13.4V with engine off)
A old belt will not allow the alternator to generate enought voltage to charge the electrical system. Check for 13.3 to 13.6V with engine running.

Your torque converter lock up is defective, it is not turning off. I would replace the torque converter lock up solenoid first and change the fluid and filter, if that is not the fix the transmission will need to come out for rebuilding and the torque converter replaced most likely..

Bmw x5 slow gear change

this is normal to some extent to try and warm up the tranny to opp temperature as soon as possible. make sure the vehicle had the latest software installed in the transmission as this could also cause a delayed shift when cold.
