I have a 2 month old Jeep patriot we just hit 4,000 kms and the change oil light has come on. the manual states not to change oil til 10,000 kms or 6 months. I checked the oil it is clean. the oil is topped up.
I reread the manual again and it says the oil will not need changing til this time, vehichles do not require it sooner.
Any ideas? I leave for a driving vacation in the morning.
Yes, i am a woman. :-)

The Patroit uses a combination of engine run time, mileage, and temp to determine when the oils needs to be changed. If you do a lot of idling you could require a change sooner than the 6000 mile interval. If you do get your oil cahnged or do it by yourself, here is the way to reset the oil warning from the owners manual:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Do not
start the engine.
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times
within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

Good luck on resetting the change oil light.
That was a new one for me and found the solution in the .pdf file
located on the owners section of the jeep.com website for the 2009 Jeep Patriot.

I changed my oil on my Jeep Patriot at 3000 miles - and 2 days later the light came on again! Any ideas????
I have 16,000 miles on my 08 patriot and the light has gone off for me when i have had it serviced at a jeep dealership, but at other quick lube joints or when I have done it myself the light remains on. I beleive a diagnostic tool is required to reset the light.
