If this only happens when the key fob is close enough for the car to "hear" the signals transmitted from it then chances are the fob is failing. The FOB will have to be taken apart, cleaned and inspected for contamination/corrosion/stress cracks.
If the car does this on it's own even when the FOB has no battery or is too far away to be heard, then the problem could be internal on the TWICE (Theft Warning Module) or a power lock switch.
Since you said the horn beeps I would say it is most likely a FOB inadvertently transmitting signals even when you're not pushing buttons. Repair or replace the fob and you should be okay.
Turn the ignition key 2 clicks (postion II) and then quickly push trip button twice, you should see time or mileage remaining for service.hold trip button down and turn key off, keep trip button down do not release, with trip still down turn key back on to the II postion continue to hold button for about 10 sec,you will hear the dash beep and the display will read 10000,all set release trip and turn key off. let me know the outcome. good day
Hi Vern, Get behind the fuse box on the side (L) door; remove the cover, turn the key on, but don't turn on engine. Push red button and hold for a couple of seconds, and you'll hear a "beep". When it beeps 3 times, push the button in and it'll reset. I have a 2001 Olds (Alero), and have done thiis a few times. Do you have an Owner's Manuel? That's how we fig. out...
open the panel with the trip/od and the mirror adjust. next to the trip/od you will see a rest button. turn the car off. weith your foot OFF the brake push the start button twice while holding in the reset button. the trip/od must be set to just odometer, no trip a or b. you will see the oil mileage reset on dash right in front of you. hold the button until it finishes. if you have navleave the ingition on and push INFO button, choose MAIT and reset the oil and filter to 5000 miles.
WHAT YOU DO IS GET IN THE CAR. CLOSE THE DOOR. THEN PUT KEY IN POSITION 2 WHICH MEANS TURN THE KEY ONCES THEN TWICE RIGHT BEFORE STARTING. OK THEN PRESS THE RESET BUTTON ON THE CLUSTER TWICE AND THEN HOLD IT(SHOULD BE A LITTLE "R" BUTTON ON THE CLUSTER) WHILE STILL HOLDING THE BUTTON SWITCH THE KEY OFF THEN BACK TO POSITION 2. CONTINUE HODLING UNTIL IT BEEPS AND SHOWS NEXT SERVICE 10,000
To reset the Change Oil Light:
Open driver's door and open fuse access panel
Turn ignition key to on (don't crank the starter)
Push reset button located in fuse panel
When Change Oil Light starts to flash
Press and hold reset button until it beeps and light goes off
Repace panel
