What has to be done to repair a p0700 & p0731 code on a 2002 dodge caravan? Does it have anything to do with opening a transmission or bringing down the transmission to fix the problem? what pieces are going to be needed to fix the problem? How much am I looking at to repair the problem?

Trans is going into safe mode, most likley you have internal problems.

replace the input speed sensor to transmission and the wiring pigtail all are available at your chrysler dealer take your vehicle registration in to the parts counter so they have your vin # to get the right part and it is the front of trans by fluid linres to radiator.

SOURCE: I have a 2005 Dodge Neon and the engine light came

a had the same problem. i am 99.9 percent sure that the wires going to the sensors underneathe the battery box and air intake are broke inside the insulation. Get to where you can see the connectors. remove the tape from both sensor connectors and give the wires a pull each wire done seperately. Mine was an orange wire and a purple wire. It is not noticeable by looking at the wires because it is the copper wire inside the insulation that will be broke. Find the broke ones and splice in new wire and the problem will be fixed.

there is a solinoid in the transmission that shifts the trans and downshifts when stopping this is a problem you generally don't want to do your self

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. What does these codes mean P1781, P0731, P1784 AND P0700 AND HOW DO I FIX THEM.

p1781 is manufacturer control transmission, p0731 is gear 1 ratio incorrect, p1784 is manufacturer control transmission, p0700 is trans, control system malfunction. all of these codes refer to tranny. This code normally points to a faulty transmission control module, but this is an expensive part and you should have an experienced Dodge technician diagnose the problem first. or a transmission specialist. the other codes are probably associated with the p0700 code. have a good day !

I am not familar with the Neon transmission. All the codes you retrieved are related to a sensor on/in the transmission. P0870 Trans Fluid Press Sensor/Switch C Circuit. If that is defective, then the other codes are related to it, P0731 & 32 1st and 2nd gear. P0700 Trans Control Sys Malfunction. Hope this helps.

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

Transmission Not Going into Overdrive

First check and make sure the fluid is full. The most likely cause is a failed solenoid pack. Circuit codes normally mean something electrical not mechanical has failed. The solenoid pack is on the outside of trans pretty easy to replace.
