I have a noise coming from the rear end, sounds like the the body is banging on in the rear. What could be the problem?

  • SHARONHAN29 Aug 02, 2008

Wow this is the second post that I have had the same problem as the other poster. My first post was about my security light staying on. But on too this post. I too have this problem. Mine is when I am at a stop, and I hear this loud bang. It almost sounds as if someone or something has hit my car.(even though I know that hasn't happened.). And when the bang happens it shakes the whole car. But for me this sound that I hear on a normal base sounds like it could be coming from my gas tank. But I am not for sure on that

While is my 2007 chevy uplander rear end so noisy?

Could be the exhaust system hitting the frame or body of vehicle when you hit a bump. There should be some wear marks where the pipe is hitting.

Honda jazz 09 rear suspension i have a noise like brick in a tin can when driving along a bumpy road?

I wish I could point to just one issue and say "this is it" but when you are dealing with the rear suspension or rear end are too many potential candidates to look at. For example, have you had the rear shocks checked? It might be the bushing at the top or it might be that the nuts and bolts at the top and bottom need adjustment. Or it could be that the exhaust system is loose and banging against the body. It also might be a loose rear suspension member that is banging against its carrier. Or, it could be something as simple as flat-spotting on your Jazz's rear tires. So, what do I think it is? I am tempted to say it is likely related to a loose bushing on one of your Jazz's shocks. The bushing is a hard-rubber piece at the top of the shock. If it is loose, it could be banging against the cover and creating the sound you hear. If you feel competent to check this problem, you will need a good pneumatic jack to lift the rear end and keep it up safely. Never use the scissors jack that came with your Jazz because it is not designed to keep your vehicle in the air so you can work on it. Use it only when you are changing tires. This is a problem that should be addressed when you have time as it should not affect your car's handling. It is more of an annoyance than anything else. To see if there might be other issues affecting you Jazz, look at http://www.safecar.info.

Banging noise

It sounds as though something is loose, probably in the front end. Check, or have a shop check the front end components or for any loose body parts that could be causing the nose. I hope this helps.

We have a banging underneath the front, we think, which sound,s like metal on metal. we hade a mechanic with a tester on and it didn,t show anything worn or loose. on 2006 Grand Caravan. How can we fix...

If you mean the mechanic plugged in a code reader and didn't get any codes, some engine troubles won't make the light come on. You can't fix what you don't know is wrong so try this. Does it make the noise if the car is NOT moving? if it only makes the banging while driving then I would be looking for a loose body part. If it makes the noise while sitting still then you need to find a mechanic that can "listen" to the engine noise and determine if it is coming from the "top end" or "bottom end' of the engine.

Rear Suspension noise on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8

Check sway bar. On some models as suspension sags, sway bar outer ends will contact the body, leaving a mark or dent just above the end, causing a bang over bumps. Only way to correct this is to change springs or add a spring lift.
