I have a 2004 alero and when I press on the brakes to stop at a red light or stop sign a vibration occurs and it's loud but when I put it in park it stops vibrating. What can I do about this problem?

Sounds like you have warped rotors and or a lose caliper mounting bolt . When you stop do you feel a vibration in the brake peddle or in the steering wheel or both ? IF you feel the pulsation in the brake peddle I would suspect a brake pad / brake rotor problem . Now if you do not feel it in either and the vibration is through the whole car with out the brakes being applied i would think it may be related to and engine/drive line problem (motor mount /trans mount /axle problem)

Get the break system serviced. Will probably require new rotors.

What may be causing my automatic transmission selector lever to have difficulty shifting out of park. I depressed the brake pedal after starting and press the lock release button but the lever sticks.

If your vehicle is equipped with one, you've most likely got a defective brake/stop light switch. It will cause the brake lights to stay on continuously, not come on at all or prevent the shifter from moving out of park.If this switch is bad,it can cause just one of the symptoms above to occur or all of the symptoms above. So in otherwords, the brake lights can still be working just fine, but it can still cause the "shifter is stuck in park" issue you're having. However if your brake lights aren't working correctly, that's definitely a sign the switch is bad.

Does it matter where you put the brake pad with the squealer on a 2004 alero

yes, it will not fit other wise. the squealer should be placed on the out board side of teh calipar as this pad wears the quickest

My car is making an awful groaning grinding noise noise when it starts. The noise stops after it starts. Put my foot on the brake it starts again. put thr car in reverse no problem put it in,drive it...

It's your exhaust mounts or broken exhaust bolts. It does it in drive st idle n under load because the motor is sitting in rubber mounts made to dampen vibration. Therefore the motor tilts to the left in reverse pulling the exhaust away from your under carraige, and to the right in drive causing the loose exhaust to vibrate against something. Check your heat shields also. They fall apart n do the same noise. Piece of cake.

When I'm stopped at a light, I notice a tight

Check the rear area of your truck and see if the tail pipe is near anything, since there is torque on the motor and drive system while you are stopped at a llight, or you can block the tires and put on e/r brake at home with truck in gear, then look and listen underneath truck to find source of rattle

2004 buick emergency brake

This car has regular shoes on the back not disc. Replace shoes and adjust cable. No parking brake is a sign of worn out shoes. Regals have rear disc on them for this year.

When i put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk

Hi Ali,

This sounds like one or more of your motor/powerplant mounts is broken. Here is an easy test:

Have someone sit in the driver's sear with engine running and trans. in Park.
You stand in front with the hood open. Have them shift from Park to Reverse, and then Drive and back to Reverse and Park, taking time to stay in each gear and give some throttle while holding the brake pedal tight. This will rock or move the engine a certain amount as they shift through the gears and apply power lightly. It will move alot more violently with broken mounts.

If you have a clunking noise on Reverse shifts, you should be able reproduce this with the hood up and pinpoint the noise and/or sight the faulty motor mount with a friend's help. Good luck, I hope this puts you on the right track to fixing this annoying noise.

Sincerely, Tater Todd
