It still sounds like the clutch, take it back to the mechanic who put the clutch in, the problem may be in the clutch master or slave cylnder( or clutch cable if it has one)

Why will the gears of my actros truck not workafter fitting new clutch

well a description of the problem would be a big help
does the gear crash when the clutch is pressed in
can the gears be engaged cleanly when the engine is stopped
did you install a single plate clutch or duel plate clutch
if the gears worked properly before removing the box , then the problem will be in the clutch plate fitting ( wrong way round and the hub is hitting on the flywheel bolts or duel plate on clutch bub is incorrect hitting on the other clutch hub)or the gear shifter installation after fitting the box

Clutch cable geo tracker

don't want to shift? fills a huge basket ,
1: grinds?
2: can't get in to some gears.? or all gears.? (engine running and not)?
3: clutch drags, clutch slips kills all gears, or just 5th.
drag kills them all and reverse 1st , its the canary gear. !! non synchro
4: noise.? or chatter, ****,larchig, or throwout hash ,?

here is the clutch page, link below.

the #1 failure for a gear not Selecting is a $5 fix.
the tip of the shifter shaft, plastic POS is broken, bar none this failure,#1 and sold only at SUZ, get em' while you can they are chapter 11 ANDGM/GEO is brain dead , ask them , and you get blank stares.

this can be proven, by selecting the gears by hand. running.
if failure, cant move those fork rods?
running? only
if you cant, the clutch is dragging. see why?
works stalled means the clutch drags.
can you shift to 1st stalled, start engine drive off can you get any gear? yes,if yes , constantly? with no grinding, the clutch is ok.

to do that manual shifter off test test the shifter must be removed.

the we get to the cable.
see the 1inch rule here, no guessing.
play set to spec, and you floor the pedal , person 2 sees 1 inch travel, (END new cable worry)
if it moves 1inch and the tranny can not be SELECTED.
the clutch is bad, if you can select only stalled motor.
if selection fails all time, stalled and running, the tranny is siezed.

How do I put car in gear with engine turned off?

If it's an automatic you'll need to start the car, put it in gear, and then turn the car off. If it's a manual simply depress the clutch and select the desired gear.

Hi On driving a Suzuki Vitara JLX 96 P Reg

Sounds like a clutch problem to me.
So, with the engine off, can you select all gears? If yes, your gearbox is probably OK.
And now with the engine idling, can you select any gears with out crunching? If this is difficult, then try this next test in an area where movement forward or backwards won't be a problem.
With the engine OFF, foot ON the clutch, the handbrake OFF, and in 1st gear, start the car. BE READY TO TURN IT OFF.
If the car moved forward as you cranked the engine, then your clutch is not adjusted properly or has worn out. That is more-than-likely the smell you got before - burnt clutch disc from it slipping.
You can drive it, but every time you want to start off, you'll have to turn the engine off, select 1st then start the engine. Accelerate slowly, making sure the revs don't rise faster that you're speeding up, and change gear by judging engine revs between gears.
Don't keep driving it as it is, as you WILL have gearbox problems if you don't fix the clutch.

I can not put my car into first or 2nd without really forcing it does this mean the gear box is gone. 3rd and 4th gear work fine

will be clutch cable or clutch hydraulic system fault depending on what car it is could be clutch assembly sticking clutch plate on splines will not be gearbox fault if you can select gears ok with engine turned off

Just bought a passat estate . when i first start off when the engine and box is cold know problems .but when the engine and gearbox are hot i find it hard to find reverse gear and a bit tight going thought...

Dose the clutch pedal drive in gear 1" from the floor OR 1"" from the top when you let it out. if its drives when almost out and there is a vibration on the pedal then the clutch needs replacing and it has nothing to do with the gear box or oil
But the gearbox has to come out before you put a new complete clutch in
