I have a 97 with the same problems, there are 4 vacume lines that come from the top of the transfer case, 2 of them go to your front axle on the passenger side to the locking switch, the other 2 go up behind the motor by the firewall and connect to vacume somewhere around the distribitor. if you see where the 2 go up behind the engine and connect let me know because my problem is i dont know where to connect them too. this is a hard plastic line and mine are very brittle so u may have broken one of these small lines

Pistol09pete,

It sounds like you have a problem with the vacuum lines that travel from the transfer case (these should be color coded lines that are green, red, and black). Goodluck

Will not lock into 4wd. Been having issues with it not wanting too but it has gotten now to where it wont lock in at all. There is no "Grinding" noise or anything to indicate it is even starting...

Check the linkage under the vehicle from floor shfter arm to PTO arm. ( a rod between the two) There should be a coupler on the rod that has probably come loose and moved. Adjust back to proper position and secure. You will probably be able to see the original position of the coupler where it was originally if it did slip. Let me know how it works out.
