if steering wheel becomes very stiff when turning wheel or corners the problem might be slipping power steering belt or partial plugged pressure line at power steering pump open cap and watch and see if there is and abnormal noises/good luck!
You may be entitle to a campaign about ESC/steering module relearning, what happens if you leave the key in the ACC position for 2 seconds without starting the ESC is disable until you restart the vehicle. a few possibilities.
Low power steering fluid. check for correct amount on pump filler measureing guage.
Loose power steering belt. check to see if the belt slips over the power steering pulley while trying to turn the steering wheel. may need an assistant.
last, but most expensive. Rack and pinion steering bar is defective and needs replacing.
take off the low pressure hose,( the ones that attach with hose clamps)then start the car turn the steering wheel back and forth, re-attach the hose and fill with new fluid, it might take a bit to get all the air out, just keep turning the wheel

Hi, Your Malibu has Electronic assist steering. Some malfunction occurred when the light came on. May have been a loose connection. You will be able to steer the car if the malfunction re-appears. It will steer hard standing still but as you move it will get easier. Best to take it to a shop and see if there are any codes stored to help locate the original power steering light malfunction.
yes you can, make sure fluid in power steering is full. jack up car and move steering from left to right, til it hits wheel stops. keep checking fluid level. when bleeding air from system, raise idle to about 1500 rpms. then turn wheel left to right. after done recheck fluid level.
this system can be tested for codes, I would suggest you have the dealer do this test, all the parts are very expensive so guessing is not a good idea. most probale cause is a wheel motion sensor on the steering column.
The power steering is electric on that car. It has a electric motor on the column, and a control module. There are several causes that could be the problem. You need to have it scanned to get a better idea of what to do. If you can give me the codes you get then I will be glad to advise you on what's best. Good Luck
