    I have an ACE 2L 16v 1992-1994 engine which has developed a rattle I strongly suspect is the timing chain. Any help on how I can solve this without paying a fortune at a garage (who by the way say they prefer not to do it!). Thanks.

This engine has a timing belt.Once you have removed the engine front cover , turn the engine to the marks as shown in the diagram.Lock the crankshaft in this position with an old reverse light switch from the gearbox by inserting it into the hole under the bell housing (manual transmission).Before removing the belt , loosen 3 bolts on the injector pump after you locked this with a 8.5 mm drill bit.Replace the belt and pull the tensioner to 16 Nm.If you are fitting a whole pulley replacement kit take note of the upgraded spacers and their position.timing belt/chain - e60a21d.jpgDont forget to tighten the injector pump bolts again after you tensioned the belt and recheck your timing marks.

Does the 1996 Honda Passport have a timing belt or timing chain. If it is a chain, does it need to be replaced at 100K?
It has a timing belt that MUST be changed every 100,000kms..........if it had a chain, then it only needs to be replced when it becomes noisy...

I would suggest also replcing the water pump whilst the belt is off......save time/labour later on down the track....

the 2.2 is a timing chain. If the cover on the front of the engine is metal it is almost always a timing chain. If it is plastic is always a timing belt.

1996 landrover dicovery , breaklights staying on all the time. Removed trailer wireing and checked break pedel switch , which is working fine. Heard that there is a second switch on the transmition...
I have the same problem. Up until now that I have time to correct the problem the right way I have had a spring attached to the brake pedal that keeps it from pushing the brake llight switch on. Makes the brakes hard to push but keeps the lights off. Not necessarily. You should at least consider it if you are close to a major service milestone (90k, 120k, etc.). It is a lot of work to change the timing chain (belt), but you have to do some of the work anyway to replace the water pump.

Does the 1996 Nissian Maxium have a timing belt or timing chain?
Just about everything has a timing belt now days, because they are quite. A timing belt is a very important part of your car, it won't run without it, and in many cases if it breaks you will trash your engine in an instant. I'd change every time I change my other belts, I honestly believe that is a good rule of thumb, Your owners manual should tell you what the manufacturer recommends. I hope this helps, I do this for free, and I just want to help people.
