Replacing the thermostat is exactly what i would have suggested for your vehicle for the overheating issue. try this, with the engine running at operating temperature, check to insure that the cooling fans coming on when the engines gaining temperature. your cooling fan may be going bad and not coming on when needed,in this case it may be a bad cooling fan sensor,or just a bad cooling fan altogether.with the engine running after you've driven the car until it gets warm, open the hood and look visually at the cooling fan to insure it's running{the engine fan} in front of your radiator. if it's not running {fan} check in the main fuse box under the hood for a bad engine fan relay 1st if no bad relay, then check for a bad engine fan motor.with the key switch in "off"position try to spin the engine fan manually by hand. if it does spin by hand it still may be a bad fan motor. or bad fan sensor.do you have a check engine light on? if so you can have it code read at any auto zone or advance auto for free.this may be of great assistance to you if the check engine light is on. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Is there a fuse that runs the radiator fan in 1997 buick lasabre

there is a fuse aswell as a sensor switch in the radiator itself which when reaches certain temp activates fan to cool radiator, if radiator isnt getting all that hot or not at all there is a thermostat built into cooling system, generally to side above gearbox or to the front of engine, this could be stuck closed which will prevent water circulating, you can identify this part by looking for a dome shaped plastic or metal piece bolted to engine (generally two, one either side, and it will have an electrical sensor located in it or beside it, drain coolant, remove domed cover and there you will find thermostat, purchase replacement and refit making sure to clean all joining surfaces and use or apply proper gasket or liquid gasket to seal joint, filling cooling system is bit mor tricky, for this just google car make model with coolant filling procedure, dont forget to add anti freeze when refilling, this also acts as a summer coolant.

How do you replace the thermostat? Is it better to take it to a mechanic?

The thermostat is normally located in the aluminium elbow that the top radiator hose connects to. The elbow is usually held down by two bolts and it is only necessary to remove these to replace the thermostat. It may not be necessary to remove any hoses. Take care that the new thermostat is correctly located in its recess and the old gasketing has been completely removed and that the new gasket has a smear of gasket cement on it. While tightening the bolts, make sure that the elbow is seating evenly and not catching on the edge of the thermostat or you could crack the elbow.

Trying to reach my back plugs on a 2001 buick lesabre

The technical term for those "dog bones" are lateral torque struts. The motor mounts hold and support the power train vertically.
Hope this helps, let me know.

Have a 2001 Buick LeSabre. Vibration turning left . Think it may be CV Joint. How do I pull the axle out to check CV Joint?

Rasie vehicle, remove tire, axle nut and caliper. remove tie rod end from spindle, remove lower ball joint nut and seperate from spindle and pull spindle from axle, with pry bar pop axle out of trans housing. it is easyer to replace cvc axle than to replace or repair cvc joint.
