I have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 ST. I have less than 73k miles on it. Have never had any issues with it. Perform all the regular maintenance at required intervals. About a month ago the check engine light came on. Every so often, at highway speeds, the check engine light would flash. Checked the codes and had misfire on cylinder 1 and 4. Replaced the plugs with no change. Actually got worse. Replaced the coils. Engine runs better at low speeds. But the check engine light comes on once and awhile and clears a day or so later. Misfire still occurs at highway speeds, above 60mph. Sometimes I can drive for 2 hours at highway speed and no misfires. Other times the misfires occur every 10-15 minutes. Misfire usually lasts about 2 minutes before clearing. Once the misfire starts it doesn't matter how fast or slow I am going. It will last about 2 minutes before it goes away. Any assistance would be appreciated.

there is going to be a whole lot of screws, take a few pitchers as you go unless you can remember everything from start to finish take the battery connections off then you can get going, take the glove box out,kick panels off drop the steering column down but don't pull it out just unbolt it remove the center console, just pay Attention to how you take the dash apart.
can be a few ideas: check plug wires, misfiring, check the plug, if you dont have plugs, than check the [ where the plug should be]
it could be the timing belt slipping, in the 1970 we had timing chains that would last for every, but some one got idea is to put a belt in so at 60-70 thousand miles you need to replace timing belt.
Timing belt, good for 100,000 miles before replaicng. They go to 150,000 easy and it is a freewheeling engine, no dmamge to valves or pistion if it breaks
Its a big job and requires time, patience(try not to throw tools around), and following the step by step instructions from a Haynes/Chiltons manuals.

I may want to get an OBD-2 code reader it does run scans on the emission sensors( fumes capture, evap, ehxaust recirculation....). there are too many things going on at once to really pinpoint the exact problem. I tried.
