I have a 2006 bmw 320cdi. I`ve noticed a dronning noise from the rear. It`s not related to engine revs or turning. Any ideas

2006 BMW X3 3.0 I hear a clunking noise when I start driving. The transfer case motor actuator was just changed 4 days ago. What is causing the noise?

The Clunk could be many things so a bit more detective work is needed. When Exactly does it 'Clunk''? is it any of the following?
-As you 'rev' the engine in neutral?
-As you put it in gear?
-As you change gear?
-As you start to pull away from a stop?
-As you apply the Brakes?
-As you release the park brake?
-As you turn into tighter corners and junctions?
Please comment below with more information and I'll see if I can help you more.

How to check pistons pressure on the 3.0 Ford- Fusion 2006

Carol - if one of the pistons is not working, there is no combustion occurring in that cylinder. The raw, unburnt fuel is being sent to the exhaust, where it is burnt in the catalytic converter. *Very soon* the catalytic converter will fail as it is not designed to burn that volume of fuel. The catalytic converter is designed only to burn the trace amounts of unburnt fuel in exhaust gasses that may be present in a poorly tuned engine. This unburnt fuel is sensed (along with other related issues) and is on of the reasons the "check engine" or "service engine soon" light has come on.

You will probably not notice the engine skipping at high revs - as this is more noticeable at lower revs. You're also losing 1/6 to 1/4 of your engine's power. If a 6 cylinder engine - you're running on 5; and if a 4 cylinder engine you're running on just 3!

Not having this addressed *now* will only cause a higher repair bill for the catalytic converter later. You should repair or trade the car now.

Good luck!

My 2006 bmw is showing a transmission fail safe signal the engine revs high when i try to drive off

Hi nkihima,

If you have both a warning light and the transmission is slipping, I would recommend having it towed to a shop. The transmission in your car is prone to leaking transmission fluid from the mechantronics sleeve, and or the transmission pan. You may or may not notice if you have a fluid leak. Covers under the car catch a lot of oil leaks. If transmission repairs are performed, I would recommend resetting the adaptation values as well.

2007 BMW 335i just had the "power reduction" message appear what does this mean?

It means that the engine power has been reduced - either automatically when the brain of the car has detected a mechanical problem in the engine or you have engaged the rain mode.
Usually this happens when you use a low quality fuel. But i've stumbled on rare cases when the Vanos sensor valve was the cause. The only way to precisely tell which is expensive and implies a visit to a dealer.

I have a 2003 Subaru Forester XT Luxury manual transmission with 100,000Km. The last 5000Km I have been increasingly aware of noise - hum rather than grinding or scraping or shadder - from rear end which...

Hello,
Noise can be also from some sticky brake pad, or the bearings of the rear wheels, or even some spoiler, but you should have noticed it right after installing, and it is another sound. As for the differential, there might be a broken tooth, or again bearings, regardless of oil state.
