I have a 1995 swift. it has ran well for three weeks until recently. the other day it consistently died and acted starved for fuel, next day worse. now wont fire just cranks over. i looked to into the throttle body and it was not recieving much fuel at all. i replaced the fuel filter and no change. i then decided it must be the pump. after dropping the tank, then decided to pull the pump out with wires attached. i turned the key and i heard the pump accuate...does this mean its good or maybe not providing enough fuel pressure? what are the symtoms of a fuel pump relay going out? thanx josh

SOURCE: car was running in driveway

hello,

i am assuming that the fuse you are replacing is the fuse for the fuel pump, then replacing the fuel pump did solve ur problem for 3 days.

did you check again the fuse of the fuel pump? if it is blown again, try looking at manual to see if you are putting the right fuse. is the fuel pump that you put in is an original pump for the car or a replacement pump?.

if it is a replacement pump, kindly check the label and if you can find out what rating of fuse it is using then use that fuse rating for that particular pump.

another case could be another defective pump...could be a factory defect...

you can compare resistance of windings of pumps to find out if they have problems.

another thought could be if there is a return line on your fuel system..if this is clogged and building up a pressure on the fuel line, then this could cause a problem on your fuel pumps.

i hope i was able to solve ur problem,

pls rate me,

tnx drcool

SOURCE: i have a 95 suzuki

try taking the fuel line loose at the fuel filter and see if any fuel comes out of it. if no fuel is coming from the tank before the filter more than likely have the lines reversed. also make sure that you are getting the proper pressure to the fuel rail.

I am having the same problem. The garage suggested the crankshaft sensor but its an expensive part and if it doesn't work I am stuck with it. Did you get yours figured out?

SOURCE: 1995 suzuki sidekick how to replace fuel pressure

you need to have the Engine Coolant Temperature switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.

1995 Subaru Legacy Wagon. Engine dies at low idle.

I understand you have maintained it properly, But often people seem to forget things like the Fuel filter. Another cause is vacuum leaks. If the car has a miss you might try a can of Seafoam through the fuel system. Cleans the system very nicely and improves fuel mileage. Hope this helps to return the Subbie to its dependable abilities. Good luck.
