The fuel filter on chevy trucks and suburbans is under the vehicle on the drivers side. they have been in that location from 1988 models to at least 2004. symptoms of a plugged fuel filter would be sluggish acceleration, engine wouls feel like it is trying to die on heavy acceleration but picks up when you let off the throttle.if the filter is stopped up completely then you could get a stall or no start condition
The fuel filter is tucked away inside the frame, located on the drivers side, right about the middle of the door. If you crawl under the truck, looking up, you will see the fliter hidden neatly behind the beam of the frame. Its very easy to take off. Buy a new filter before you take the old one off, and you will then know what to look for. Hope this helps.
Release pressure from the line and then change out the filter, it is in the fuel supply line under the truck. Symptoms of filter issues: anything from a mild to severe loss of power accelerating or under a load, worse case the engine will not run

i cannot find a fuel filter on my truck
I have a problem kinda like this, I really dont know anything about this truck my husband is deployed he usually deals with it, is it easy to fix if you dont know what your doing? where is the filter, I called the Chevy dealer they said it probably needs a tune up and that cost 600$!!! I need help fast I am afraid to get out in it, may quit on me. This is what its doing, I just brought it back from being overseas and put gas in it, it acts like it will stop running at lights and stop signs etc, then when you put your foot on the gas it hesitates then catches up smells like gas and kinda putput and run. Any help would be great I do need a way to go fast
I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado and trying to find the fuel filter is a pain. Anytime you call someone they do not want to give out info, but rather you bring in for a charge. You can start the truck and in seconds it shuts off, if you press the acclerator it smells as if it is flooding. Thought I would try changing out the filter before changing out the fuel pump.
