ENGINE STARTS FOR 10 SECONDS AFTER TURNING IGNITION ON AND OFF FOR A NUMDER OF TIMES,AND THEN STALLS .WON'T START AGAIN UNTILL IGNITION IS TURN ON AND OFF FOR THE SAME NUMBER OF TIMES.

CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 58 - 64 PSI. IF YOU HAVE ZERO FUEL PRESSURE OR LOW FUEL PRESSURE.AND FUEL FILTER BEEN CHANGED YOU HAVE FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS.TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE REPLACE FUEL PUMP RELAY TO MAKE SURE ITS NOT BAD.IT WILL SHUT OFF FUEL PUMP IF FAULTY.

So the Security light is on or flashing in your vehicle and you are looking at 1 of 3 things. Either the vehicle won't crank over and start, It cranks but dies in a few seconds, or your vehicle shuts off while driving scaring the **** out of you. You have now experienced GM's worst security system ever created. GM's security, also known as Passlock Passkey or Vats.

There are 3 parts in this system:

1.The CHIPKEY
Normally a black resister chip in key which "communicates" to the lock cylinder. Sometimes is hidden in the plastic part of keys in new models. Same concept, might say PK1 PK2 PK3 PL or something similar to that. The newer ones work on frequency. Same thing tho.

2.The LOCK CYLINDER
Inside there are pins that read the chip in the key or the part that reads the frequency on new models. This then "communicates" to the TDM)

3.The TDM
Theft Deterrant Module-Sometimes called the "computer" or "brain". This is the part that sends the signal (**NOTE**) to your car and allows your car to start or continue running depending on your type of system.
If any of these parts are not communicating properly, your SECURITY light will come on and shut down your vehicle. The idea being, that without the chipped key or FOB key, the vehicle wont start and cant be "hotwired" or stolen. Pretty nice when working, but these systems are flawed and the average life is 6-10 years. Every single aspect of this system is expensive to replace and can only be worked on by "authorized" GM service men with out voiding warrenty. Most garages dont even touch them and if they do,
they will sell you every part they can before "fixing" the problem

*QUICK FIX TRICKS*
1st trick
Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down with use and so do the keys causing the security to fail.

2nd trick
(if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my Buick for more than a year. Remember this is a temporary fix... If its shutting down while running, I'm sorry I have no quick fix...
*PERMINANT FIX*
Well since the lifespan of these systems are so short, and are extremely expensive to fix, and in my opinion far worse of a threat to owners than theives, my only perminant suggestion is to eliminate it completely. After a year of 10 minute tricks and a "key bypass" that lasted 2 months. I have only one good suggestion. After surfing the web for hours thru forums and websites i came across http://newrockies.com/passkey to the starter or injectors and so on. Thus eliminating the ENTIRE system COMPLETELY. I came upon a fork in my road. A TDM for $600 in my $1000 car or the $200 bypass. Or throw my car away. Lets say i now drive a Buick with the chip ripped out of the key and the TDM sitting in my glovebox for show
and tell. If you have any questions or anything else. Comment on this post

i have pictures of what a TDM looks like and will definately help you when

Hmm.. Had the same trouble with a 1999 Astro.. Turned out to be the coolant sensor behind/near the top radiator hose on top of the block.. Used a 3/4(?) deep six point socket to remove/replace it.. 10-15 minute job...

1988 s15 jimmy starts fine but stalls out


Stalls out when and how? At start up would be security. Do a reset. Turn it on, let it set for 10 minutes off or 30 seconds. Then try to start. relearn is do this three times with out the start up. After three times try to start. 4.3 engines have a problem with distributors also. the gear is junk. Though I haven't seen then to kill the engine, it wouldn't surprise me. Need to know when it stalls..

How to reset ECU,Throttle and Accelerator Position Learning


Hi.

Below the procedure to reset ECU,Throttle and to perform Accelerator Position Learning on Nissan. It works on Titan, Altima, Infinity, pathfinder and other models.

ECU Resetting


While performing the procedures below, ensue that you are respecting the times stated. If the steps are not done within the specified times, the module will not reset. You will need to use a watch or a chronograph while performing the procedures.

Procedure:

1. Ensure that the accelerator pedal is fully released, set ignition switch to the “ON” position, then wait 3 seconds.
2. Follow the steps a and b below, repeat the two steps in sequence quickly for five times within 5 seconds.
a. Push hard the accelerator pedal untill fully depressed.
b. Release the accelerator pedal in full.
3. Wait 7 seconds, then depress the accelerator pedal completely, and hold it for about 10 seconds until the CEL (check engine light) starts blinking.
4. Release the accelerator pedal while the CEL is still blinking.
5. Wait 10 second.
6. Depressthe accelerator pedal in full and hold it for 10 seconds or more.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal while the CEL light keeps flashing.
8. Turn the ignition switch to “OFF” position and start the vehicle. If procedure has been done correctly, then the light light will turn off.
If the light continues to stay on, repeat the procedure.

Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning

Procedure

1. Ensure that the accelerator pedal is completely released before starting the procedure.
2. Turn the ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch “OFF”, and wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch “ON” and wait 2 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch “OFF” and wait 10 seconds.

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

Procedure

1. Ensure that accelerator pedal is completely released.
2. Turn ignition switch to the “ON” position.
3. Turn ignition switch to the “OFF” position and wait at least 10 seconds.
Ensure that the throttle valve moves after turning the switch off.

Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)

Procedure

1. Follow the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning described above.
2. Do the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning also described above.
3. Start the engine, and allow warming up.
4. Turn the ignition on “OFF” positionand wait 10 seconds.
5. Ensure that accelerator pedal is fully released, then turn the ignition switch to “ON” position, and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the steps a and b below five times within 5 seconds in sequence.
a. Push hard the accelerator pedal untill fully depressed.
b. Release the accelerator pedal until reaching full extension.
8. Wait 7 seconds or more, depress the accelerator pedal completely and hold the pedal down for about 20 seconds until you see that the Check Engine Light stops blinking and starts getting steady..
9. Rrelease completely the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the light coming ON.
10. Start engine and let it run at idle for about 20 seconds.
12. Test the engine to ensure the idle speed and ignition timing are set correctly.

1999 Mercury Sable Keyless entry wont work


I only have the instructions. If it won't program you may have a problem in the module. In that case see the dealer for testing and diagnosis

. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN.
Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. 2. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote. Door locks will cycle to
confirm programming.

3. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle
again to confirm programming.

4. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.

Starts then dies & won't restart


check fuel pressure, should be 40 psi.
try 2 things

spray starting fluid in air intake to see if it will stay running. It's fue then.

Try turning key to on nd wait 5 seconds for system to build pressure and pump to shut off. Turn key off, wait for relay clcik noise or 10 seconds. then turn key to ON again and wait 5 seconds to build pressure again. Then start engine. If it starts better, you have a bad check valve in the fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator on the fuel rail (unlikely).

After my recent Oil Change my Chrysler Seabring 2008 Seabring Convertible gives me a Change Oil Message each time I start the engine.


TRY RESETTING OIL CHANGELIGHT BY TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION WITH ENGINE OFF.TURN IGNITION SWITCH ON 10 SECONDS PUMP ACCELRATOR SLOWLY 3 TIMES .UNTIL OIL CHANGE LIGHT FLASHES THEN IT HAS RESET.

Mitsubishi 4g92 engine starts and stalls after 5 seconds of start up.


start with the security system, check the owners manual on how to reset, ussually you can turn the ignition on for 10 minutes then off then start the engine. sometimes you have to do this three times. hope thar works for you

My son says that he starts up the 1996 Dodge Ram pickup and it starts right away but if he doesn't keep his foot on the gas pedal for 30 seconds to 2 minutes or so, the truck dies. It will start up again,...


It could also be carbon build up on the throttle body, but regardless the cure is the same. Your going to need to clean the throttle body and the idle air control valve (IAC). With a can of throttle body cleaner, (follow instruction on the can) clean the throttle body blade and the IAC passage way in the throttle body and IAC. Once the throttle body is cleaned, with the engine off, turn the ignition key to the on position (engine not running) and wait for 30 seconds and then turn if off for 10 seconds and then start it. This should reset the IAC, if it did not work do it again and see if it helps. If not clean out the IAC passage way again. The turning on and off the ignition reset's the IAC and it may still be stuck with carbon build up. Once the engine has started, Note there will be lots of smoke form the tail pipe, that's normal. It's just the left over throttle body cleaner and carbon being burn off, take's not more then 10 min to burn off. Good luck and this should keep you from replacing the IAC. Oh and don't use Carb cleaner, Carb cleaner is to corrosive to the throttle body gasket.

Try to reset the IAC valve on the throttle body it has 4 wires t it .
procedure is as follows

turn ignition key on (don't start the engine), unplug the IAC valve, turn the key off, replug the IAC .Do this 3-4 times .Then start the engine while holding the pedal down at about 2000 rpm then let the rpm down slowly till idle. Sometimes the throttle requires cleaning then redo the reset.
