i don't know. if using a remote, try your spare remote to
eliminate damaged remote or low battery in current remote.
use key and open doors and trunk to see if all locks pop up.
i had same problem 2 days ago. i used key and tried to start car. yup, my 12 volt car battery was almost dead. i used
battery charger, started car and drove it for about twenty minutes. i may need new/used [wrecker] battery.
Do you have the diamond shaped key? If so, the battery isn't meant to be replaced (it charges when put in the ignition). You have a few options:
1. Buy a new key from the dealer. A new key costs about $250 and they'll probably have to order it.
2. You could try to cut open the key and replaced the rechargeable battery. Your key wasn't meant to be opened so it will be tough.
If you go this route, you'll want a
new cover since it now looks terrible. Look on ebay and buy diamond
shaped blank key. There are 2 type; one with a notch and one without.
Get the blank key cut and move the internals from your old to your new
key.
If you don't have the diamond shaped key, look for the seam and a small notch on the side of the key and pry it open to access the battery. You can find the battery (the correct size is printed on top of the battery) at Amazon.
you can call a key smith which will come out and get into your trunk but also the key smith could change the lock to the trunk so the same key that opens the doors also opens the trunk.
Programming When Key batteries completely discharged. Key batteries not replaced within 60 seconds. Key added or replaced. DO NOT press remote control buttons during battery replacement. How Unlock vehicle. Enter vehicle. Close driver's door. Switch ignition ON and OFF. Remove ignition key. Press and hold unlock button Fig. 1 [1]. Press lock button Fig. 1 [2] briefly 3 times within 10 seconds keeping unlock button [1] depressed. Release unlock button Fig. 1 [1]. Some models: LED Fig. 1 [3] flashes slowly for 10 seconds. Some models: Central locking system locks and unlocks rapidly to indicate correct programming. Some models: Repeat above procedure if central locking system does not work and LED does not flash or LED flashes continuously
To change batteries remove panel back of key then screws on plastic bar
Batteries are available from your local motor factor shop
You might not need new batteries try re programing as described above
When you press lock you should hear central locking click.
If you don.t the remote battery is flat. You can not change battery,it charges in ignition as you drive.Have you got a second key to try.
If not use manual key located in remote key{check ln owners manual}to lock car. Also using this key will confirm central locking is ok.
good luck barry.
If you have the diamond shape key, the battery is not replacable. If you have the square shaped key, the battery is replacable, but that is obvious because of the screws on the back of the remote.if you have the diamond shape key, it is recharged when its inserted into the ignition. If the key hasn't failed, taking a long trip 60 min. or longer should recharge the battery. If there is no change in the operation of the key after your long trip, most likely the key has failed and needs replacement.
go to the PASSENGER side door.insert the key ,lift the handle up and hold, rotate key to the right.the lock will come up manually and you can gey in the car
I have a e60 525i that I just brought and it has the same problem, the owners manual suggests driving with the key in the ignition for a long time as the batteries are rechargable and may have gone flat, i have tried this and it doesnt seem to work
i also read something about getting water in the aerial about the rear window and that wrecks the receiever. My car isn;t under warranty so not looking forwarding to taking it to bmw
