Low oil level can cause this as well as a bad oil pressure switch for VTEC control, possible VTEC solenoid.
Another reason for this code is the immobilizer. the anti theft device that looks at your key for the diode to match the car. This is on cars with out the VTEC.
On the VTEC system
DEFINITION:
VTEC System Malfunction
PROBABLE CAUSES:
-Low oil/pressure
-Blocked oil pressure
-Failed VCT oil control valve

Hi.. Im new to this.
dcramer531 i bought a 08' honda accord EX V6 3.0 v-tec 3 days ago. with 139,xxx miles on it. bought it with a check engine light.
took it to go get the code read and it was p1259 vtec system malfunction.
the car drives really well. fast. no idle problems. no oil leaks.
but i guess the vtec is just not engaging. when im around 35hundred RPM it sputters . thats it.. so i just drive it like a grandma.. for now..
so i hope is not a major issue..
i beeen reading forums about p1259
i keep hearing and seeing SOLENOID clean it or replace it..
and oil level which is not my case because i just got an oil change the day after i bought the car.
so how should i go about this..
theres other things i read and its possible that it can be the problem as well such o2 SENCOR? OIL PRESSURE SWITCH/VALVE?
WHAT SHOULD I DO FIRST!!!!!!??????
thanks..
sorry not an 08' its a 1998 Honda Accord EX v6 3.0 v-tec
This is one way to get fix get a swicth stray from the battery but u have to really remember don't and o say don't forget to torn of the swicth if u r in the hyway don't live it on another don't ever turn it of if u r above 35 hundred rpm u will bend a valve
