My Answer:

It appears that very possibly you have a bad ABS wheel sensor either up front (right or left side) if you only have Disc Brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear, or else a bad ABS sensor in one of the rear wheels with a 4 wheel Disc Brake system.

The damp part was the giveaway, as if it's doing it in dampness then surely it'll do it when wet as well. That is a given!

Esp if it's not doing it in DRY weather.

If it's not a bad (leaky as from moisture getting inside it) ABS wheel sensor then it could just be chaffed wires coming off from one of the wheel sensors that's shorting to ground. Esp when it gets wet as from dew point moisture or from rain. Possibly, but somewhat doubtful.

If you just had the brakes serviced recently, and the problem started shortly there afterwords then I would definitely suspect the (a) wheel sensor.

If it's been a problem from DAY ONE, or even under the original warranty period then it needs to be fixed for FREE under that original warranty. No bones about it.

What's probably happening is that the sense wire from whichever wheel sensor is bad is shorting out and causing the ABS FAULT LIGHT to come on. I seriously doubt that you will get a CHECK ENG code fault, as this is purely a BRAKE ABS fault.

One thing you might do is pull the main wiring harness connector off of the ABS unit itself and check it for MOISTURE on the contacts. If any is found then that is your problem point.

Even if no moisture is spotted get a can of waterproofing spray from you local automotive parts store and spray out both sides of the ABS wiring harness connectors.

Since this is purely a MOISTURE related ABS Warning Light issue/problem it has to be one or the other and nothing else.

Sometimes it's best to check for this issue at night with a good bright LED type light, as then the MOISTURE will show up better then in the daytime.

If this fixes the problem please post the result.

ABS light and all wheel drive light in 2009 impreza 2.5i

The common denominator here is a speed sensor. If your speedometer is working fine and your cruise control operates properly, then I'd guess you have a faulty wheel speed sensor. Rain will definitely aggravate a failing sensor, since they are only a few inches from the road.

Have a Traction Active light on when I turn left at a slow speed.

EITHER YOU HAVE A HUB ASSEMBLY/ABS SENSOR FAILING IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. THE IMPALA'S ARE REALLY BAD ABOUT CUTTING/TEARING WIRES THAT RUN TO THE ABS SENSOR. PULL THE WHEEL OFF AND CHECK YOUR WIRING TO THE SENSOR IF IT LOOKS GOOD THEN YOU WILL NEED A NEW SENSOR/HUB ASSEMLY.

My ABS system check out OK during startup. ABS Light illuminates, then goes off. Have just installed new brake pads and rotors. However, when the car is coming to a stop, about 2 - 4 mph, it feels to me...

something as simple as a piece of string or trash can cause this, best to visually inspect the sensors, or do wha I do-go to one tof those carwashes that are do it yourself, and shove the high pressure wand (not too close) underneath near the inside of each tire, and clean the sensors off-sometimes a good drive int he rain works too, but it is not raining a lot here lately....

ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND DISENGAGES THE ABS BUT

When the ABS light is on the ABS system is deactivated. Meaning, when the abs is light is on and you brake, the tires will lock up with heavy braking.

Escapes have a common issue of the ABS excitor rings cracking causing ABS problems. Sometimes it activates on almost every brake application. It may set a code in the ABS computer for an intermitten wheel speed sensor or no wheel speed signal. Check all the "rings" on the outside of all four axleshafts. If none of the rings are cracked it is likely a bad ABS wheel speed sensor.

Location of ABS wheel sensor 96 Astro Dayvan 2WD

most sensors are located at the wheel hub, you should see the reluctor gear mounted on the drive axles in the front, you may need to remove the wheel and rotor to get to it! is it all wheel drive or just front wheel drive, if front wheel drive you should follow the wire that goes to each wheel in the rear, if all wheel drive it may only have one sensor in the transphercase to monitor driveline speed.
you really should have some one scan the abs and find out the code/s and diagnose it, just cuase the light comes on doesent mean its the wheel speed sensor, it could be the abs module ect ect..., check the fluid level and make shure its not low and or dirty.

ABS lite on ,on a 2005 caravan but tester says no codes , can clear codes but as soon as van moves lite comes back on.

Check tire sizes and or tire pressure. low or different pressure will make ABS light come on due to differing loaded rolling diameters. I will explain. take 2 tires fill one with 40psi and fill the other with 12psi (this is drastic pressure difference I know) have someone sit on each of them and measure from the center of the hub down to the ground. One distance will be longer than the other. This is like putting a smaller tire in this position or larger depending on how you look at it... Ad 2 more tires that may be improperly inflated or maybe even replace 2 ...(I think you get the picture) anyway each wheel has a sesor on it measuring wheel speed and compares to vehicle speed. With too much differences the controller gets confused and throws an error but everything is good and functional.
