It all depends on which system your vehicle is equipped with. There are two different systems: One has slide controls for the MODE (direction) and TEMPERATURE (Hot/Cold). The other has push-button controls.
If you have the slide controls, you may have a cable that has broken or has become disconnected from the mode door under the dash. It is possible also that the mode door itself may be broken.
If you have the push-button controls, The system is similar, but the mode door is actually moved by an electric actuator. The actuator could be bad or the circuits (including the switches and electronic control module) that control the actuator could be bad. The mode door can also be broken on this type. If the mode door is broken it is usually caused by a defective actuator trying to turn the door past its mechanical limits.
