I do not have a diagram for you but the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. This is for a 6.4 Liter or I think a 390 and goes in a clockwise rotation. Not saying anything to belittle you but am going to explain how to get your car to top dead center (TDC) so you know where the number 1 plug wire goes on the cap. If you already know how to do this just disregard the rest of this, just want to be sure. take the number 1 spark plug out. Rotate the engine until the piston is all the way to the top of the cylinder. You can feel this by sticking a screwdriver in there to feel if it is to the top of the cylinder. Don't leave the screwdriver in there while you are turning the engine as it may jam in there and cause damage. Once the piston is to the top put the distributer rotor on and look to see where it is pointing. The place it would be point if your distributer cap was on, where it is pointing is where the number 1 spark plug cable goes. The the next one in a clockwise rotation wil be where the number 8 plug wire goes then the next would be where the number 4 plug wire and so forth. I hope this helps you and good luck.

You did not say what engine but it is probably a 389, and the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

to clarify what clifford225 wrote, when you remove the plug for #1, and rotate it, it has to be on the COMPRESSION stroke-not the exhaust stroke (both will have the piston at top dead center, only compression stroke is correct for timing purposes). you can determine this if you can feel compression with your thumb over the plug hole, or watch the crank pulley to see if the '0' timing mark lines up with the mark on the front engine cover.

Local libraries carry old service manuals that will give you the firing order.

Truck is not firing on 3 cylinders yet it runs.. Runs really rough, back fires, under powered.. Plugs are Wet, Firing order is correct. New Spark plug cables. Don't know that is wrong! Please Help

Check for spark at the plug ( may have coil problem).
If spark is good then do a compression check. Pressure shouldn't be less than 75% of known good cylinders.

Changed the spark plugs and wires, now my engine makes a knocking sound. Why?

you may have the firing order wrong. best practice is to replace one at a time so not to get wires crossed with the wrong spark plug. your local parts store or the dealership can provide you with a print out of the firing order

You could have mixed up the order of the spark plug cables causing the firing order to be wrong. What is the exact year, make, model, and engine size of your truck?

I dont know in what order my spark plug wires hooked up.

Chec here the MUSTANG FIRING ORDER

Below are the firing orders for 5.0L, 4.6L, 3.8L, and 2.3L late model Mustangs. Remember to be very careful when checking your firing order because the ignition system on your car runs on very high voltage. Do not remove spark plug wires from the distributor or spark plugs while the engine is running.
Firing order sequences:
V8's 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
V6's 1-4-2-5-3-6
2.3L 1-3-4-2

Make sure wires are in correct order for firing. Also make sure they snap down when placed on.
