Hello, we have a 2003 Kia Rio- problem as above- unlocking and then locking- only way in and out through passenger door.
This is what I have done and everything is back to normal- I hope it works for you.
1 Remove 25AMP fuse that controls door central locking from main box under the bonnet.
(AT this stage my passenger door opens- drivers side does not, the mechanism won't fully rotate)
2, Spray key with WD40 (or similar moisture repellent lubricant). Gently turn key to loosen mechanism- Partly remove key and spray lubricant into lock, have fun locking and unlocking!
3, Replace 25 amp fuse
4, Write yourself a cheque for garage labour and parts and wife brownie points!
Thanks mate your a blimin genius! you probably just saved me an easy hundy and alot of embarrasment! this tip worked a treat! 100%

I have a 2005 Kia carnival/Sedona. Since late I cant seem to get the drivers door to physically open. Central locking works fine and the locks open with the key too. However the drivers door just wont open physically. Any help / advise on this would be highly appreciated. Thanks
You're a genius and a lifesaver. Well done.

Hi,
I have a Kia Rio. My driver side door was not opening. The lock was constantly resetting itself.
I followed the advice to remove the power lock fuse, manually unlock the door, spray wd40 into the lock, and jiggle the lock with the key. I finally got the door to open.
I then removed the door cover to access the door latch mechanism inside the door. There are about 5 screws, and you have to unhook the window and mirror power cables from the cover. I wound the glass up to get clear access to the latch. I found a broken spring lying inside the door. I played around with the lock until I figured out where to insert a new spring. NOTE - I did not remove the door latch assembly from the door. I worked on it right inside the door. I attached the new spring with a couple of tie-wraps, replaced the fuse, and viola - all systems OK. Manual lock OK. Remote lock and unlock OK.
The door latch switch was not being reset when the door was unlocked because of the broken spring, so the brainbox was seing a constant LOCK signal.
SOURCE: the driver side door does not unlock - can only (central locking)
Hi:
It is extremely difficult to remove the door panel with the door closed. You mentioned that you can unlock the door with a key, so does the door still open and close once unlocked? You most likely just need to replace the power door lock solenoid, as when they fail, they usually sieze up, and make manual lock unlocking difficult.

The central locking system keeps locking itself. Buttons pop up when key is turned in door but immediately pop back down. To get in must open car from passenger door and quickly grab handle before button pops down. Once in the car the buttons click up and down repeatedly.
i have the exact problem with my KIA cerato. it started about 3 months ago 2005 model
Central locking keeps locking on its own and the driver side door would not open. Only way to get out is to hold the lock up on passenger side and pull lever to open at the same time,
I have the same problem. I can not get out of my drivers side door. I pull up on the lock and it automatically goes back down.
central locking opens all doors except drivers when i lift drivers door handle all doors lock again now unable to enter via drivers door
I have a 2003 Optima. About 14 months ago my passenger door could not be unlocked with the remote, nor could it be unlocked from the inside. Only the key would open it. It was dangerous to carry a passenger. Kia made repairs. In February, the lock went out on the driver door. You could not use the door lock to lock the doors--only the remote. You could not use the remote to open the driver's door. Then the key wouldn't open the door and I had to slide across the bucket seat from the passenger side to get into and out of my car. Although my car has only 36,000 miles on it, the 5-year warranty had run out in November 2008. It cost me $250 to get the lock repaired. Two weeks later the passenger door lock went out again. I can only lock or unlock it with the key. It cannot be unlocked from inside the car. Kia wants another $250 to repair it. It told them I thought there was obviously a problem with the locking system which was discovered before the car was out of warranty. They advised that the problem I'm having with the passenger door right now is caused by the failure of a different part than the repair made 14 months ago and implied that this is not unusual. Another thing, if I leave the passenger door unlocked (which is generally what I do), when you open it, the alarm goes off. I loved my car but this is driving me crazy. No more KIAs for me.
My Kia Cerato 05 has started locking itself in the last few weeks. Sometimes when I open the doors with my zapper they all lock again straight away. I have locked my keys in the car a few times because of this. Could it be just the batteries in my zapper need changing?
This happened to my 08 Rio. Turned out that moisture had frozen and broken the locking system inside the drivers side door. This would lock my doors and arm the the alarm automatically. Techs at Kia replaced driver side locking system and that fixed the problem.
I have a 2005 Kia carnival/sedona. Since late I cant open the drivers door. The locks work with the key and remote and central locking works fine too. However the drivers door will not physically open would appreciate some help /advise on how to fix this. Thanks Allen
