My 2005 Chevy Malibu steering makes knocking sound when you turn it left and right. All 4 stroutsand absober is changed and still the noise is still there.
The most scarry one is power steering. My steering locked on me while on about 65 miles an hour.
I have read alot about malibu steering problems but nobody have said they have a solution.
What can I do to fix the noise and scarry steering lock?
Thanks as I waite for your reply.

3.8 engine? the power steering pump is between the engine and firewall. Standing on the passenger side, look down to the left to the engine. A pain to get to, but not impossible.
In the steering wheel? Or front wheels. If you are hearing a clicking noise coming from your front wheels when you turn you have a cv joint that is bad.
Looks like it's time for a right wheel bearing, or however many there are in the hub. I'm assuming you do not have a 4 wheel drive. Remember, if it makes noise when turning left, you are "loading" the right wheel bearing. ( Shifting more weight to the side inside your turn). Think this way. When turning left at a higher speed, the left tire might even come up off the ground! That puts all the weight on the right. If you've 4 wheel drive, could also be c.v. joints, or universal joints.
you should take it to a shop that can work on these systems if not go to a dealer to have it checked.there is sensors that affect the electrical steering systems.and should only be work on by qualified techs,as if you do it yourself you may not have a problem but you could end up causing an accident if not done properly.
Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me. Try slightly turning to the left than to the right when the noise begins. If it changes pitch, than it is most probably a bad wheel bearing.
sounds like the power steering is going bad ,,they have a electric cloumn, youll need a new cloumn it contains the complete power steering unit, its a common gm issue
Is it noisy with only the blower fan on or does the A/C have to be on to get the noise.
Try using the heater only and see if the noise is present.
Let me know.
Regards,
Have a mechanic check lower control arm bushing at the rear of the control arm.It is a horizontal bushing retained by a vertical bolt clamping it to frame. The tire will move more forward and back more than it should during braking. canuck mechanic.
