There is a floater sensor on the fuel pump and when they go bad the sensor does not send a signal of the tank being full. That little arm on the fuel pump moves up and down with the level fill of the fuel tank. The fix is a new pump.

Hi, I have a chrysler sebring 2007 2.4L Sedan. My fuel gauge always shows empty (light on too) and my engine light is on as well..

Pull the wire off fuel tank to the sender unit earth it out with ignition on.The fuel gauge should go to full slow even motion if it does replace unit in petrol tank.If it doest move you need new fuel gauge. Also before any of this i sumise you have checked fuse

Renault laguna computer says warning fuel level low i have put petrol in it still says the same the petrol lights on and the gauge is showing quarter full

Hi Singo the light and gauge are seperate systems that's why they are reading wrong. It's most likely the sensor in the tank of worst case an ECU fault. You will need someone to look at it for you because Renault electrical systems are very temperament and a wrong move could cause other more serious problems. Regards Jim...

Petrol light stays on what is wrong

I'm guessing petrol is the US equivalent to gasoline so you either have a problem with the gauge or the sensor that sends fuel level info to the gauge which is located in the gas tank.

How can i fix the petrol guage that is not

do you know that petrol gauge is a sort of volt meter.there are five things requir to operate it.1st of all see to it that movement of gauge is working.give 1.5v of a battery directly to gauge for amoment if gauge doesn't move change the -ve to +ve even then it doesn't move it means gauge itself is faulty.if it moved look out for a wirewound resistor in fuel tank.if it is open then gauge will not work.if that is good look for voltage across resistor normally 12v are given.if 12 volts are there then look out for flot.connect a voltmeter to gauge, move the flot by hand very slowly and see if the varition in volt meter if it is not there then look out for connecting wires from gauge to fuel tank.i think you can do it now

Fuel gauge not working on alfa gtv 1998

Sounds as though the tank sensor is faulty. Access through top of petrol tank, note the wiring colours and position. Lift out and check condition of float and the rheostat wiring and slider. Get a replacement from EB spares

Pajero NK87 petrol guage not working, shows empty even when tank is full

Sounds like the Fuel sender unit in the fuel tank needs replacing however you may want to check that the electrical plugs are contacting properly,Check that the gauge is working by putting a piece of wire from the sender unit wire to the chassis,at the fuel tank sender unit plug,Turn ignition on while watching gauge if it moves toward fill turn ignition off and remove wire to chassis. If gauge moves it means from the fuel tank to fuel gauge is intact and not your problem.

FUEL GAUGE AND LIGHT STAYS ON NEARLY EMPTY AFTER PUTTTING IN PETROL.WHATS THE MOST LIKLY FAULT. DODGY GAUGE OR FLOAT IN PETROL TANK.THANKS FLYNN.

Do you mean that the gauge registers as empty, even after the tank is filled? Probably the sending unit needs to be replaced (it's in the tank, likely partially attached to the fuel pump).
