If the "service soon" is turn on, this is a warning about "maintenance time" (filter and fluids change); this warning light isn't the same that "check engine".

Hope helps.

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and my engine service soon light comes on what does that mean and should I be worried.

Take it into the mechanic to have a service done and the switch in the dash needs to be reset.
On some cars there is a switch behind the gauges you take a small screw or bolt out and put into the other hole and it resets the light

Does the 2003 pontiac grand prix have a check engine light separate from the service engine soon light?

No it does not. The Service Engine Soon (SES) light and the Check Engine light are the same thing, just with different words. They're both the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) just with different wording. GM decided to be special in that regard.

What years 3.1 engine will fit in 1998 pontiac grand prix

Unfortunately it's a (relatively) one year only engine (without major component changes). However, these will fit without those changes:

'97, '98, '99 Buick Century,

'98, '99 Lumina (car),

'98, '99 Grand Prix,

'99, Monte Carlo.

This is assuming that you have an (8th digit) "M" VIN. Off the top of my head.

I wouldn't have gotten a cat. If the o2s are all replaced, then it could be an EGR valve

Change oil soon light. how to get it to shut off

Answer The "change oil" light on a 2001 Grand Prix is reset by pressing the gas pedal three times while the vehicle is in "accessory" mode:

1. Turn the car off.
2. Place the ignition key in the "on" position, without starting the car. That is, turn the key forward to the place right before it fires the engine.
3. Place your foot on the gas pedal and press it all the way down three times, waiting approximately one second between presses.

If done correctly, the "change oil" light will flash repeatedly, and will then reset.

Please note that it is rare to do this successfully on the first try; if it does not work, turn the car off and try the procedure again, varying the wait slightly between pedal presses at each attempt
