Hi there! I have a 03 Focus ZX5 Man tranny. My check engine light came on..had it coded..came up with P2004 & P2008. Deciphered them..Said it was the Intake Manifold Runner Control, Bank 1 stuck open. Where is this located and how do I go about repairing? Thank you in advance for the help!

p2004 (Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open)You need to take a look at the IMRC actuators on the intake manifold. You can try using a screwdriver or other tool to move the actuators to see if one is stuck in the open position. Do not use your fingers to do this, because if one is open and decides to close it has a bit of force behind it and can injure you. If the IMRC is stuck open, it is usually due to deposits in the intake manifold. Repair involves removing the upper intake manifold and cleaning out any deposits in the IMRC plate area. I would try running some Techron Concentrate in 2 tanks of gas to see if it dissolves enough of the gunk on the plates to free up the stuck one. Certainly a lot cheaper than having to pull the intake manifold and cleaning the plates. Always run tier one gasoline like Shell or Chevron to reduce the buidup of deposits.

on the passenger side of the engine you will see 2 small metal rods at the top of the engine just below the intake manifold there are little white clips that hold the rods on these clips usually break and the rods come off

I had the exact same problem. The check engine light would come on then go off. I didn't notice any drivabiltiy issues. End the end I had to replace the flapper motor, the high pressure fuel pump and the camshaft. They showed me the old parts and sure enough the camshaft lobe was worn down and the cam follower that actuates the fuel pump was in pieces. Needless to say it was very expensive. It's been a problem posted on many Audi sites. I went ahead and had the timing belt changed. Now she's as good as new.

Check pcv hose from the manifold to pipe. It will get soft and collapse, leak. It will turn light on. Check while running.

with the P2004 and P2008 code OBD-II Trouble Codes: Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open Bank 1. The easiest fix is to replace the Intake Manifold Runner Control @ carparts.com for a total of $35 bucks. But first check the vacuum hose attached to the Runner Control. If its cracked or has some sort of leak it'll throw the codes.

Trouble code p2004 & p2008 ford focus 2003, how do i fix problem?

There is a rod passing through the intake manifold that rotates butterfly valves inside the ports. It is actuated by a lever on the end of the manifold that is moved by a small motor. The codes indicate that the actuator is not functioning or the rod is stuck from turning. Check the connector to the motor and the wiring. See if you can rotate the rod by hand.

I have a Ford Focus 2004 ZX5 automatic. Just rebuilt the tranny and it won't shift into 3rd gear. Any ideas?

Strip the tranny again and check that you have not blocked the oil ways. and that all the pistons and valves are working freely

CODE P2004 INTAKE AIR SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. POSSIBLE CAUSE.TEST FOR STICKING ACCELERATOR OR SPEED CONTROL CABLE TURN OFF KEY AND DISCONNECT ACCELERATOR AND SPEED CONTROL CABLE FROM THROTTLE BODY.ROTATE THE THROTTLE BODY LINKAGE TO DETERMINE.IF IT ROTATE FREELY.THE THROTTLE BODY MAY HAVE FAILED.CHECK AIR CLEANER AND AIR INLET ASSEMBLY FOR RESTRICTIONS.CHECK THE IAC MOTOR RESPONSE.IT MAY BE DAMAGED OR STICKING.CHECK PVC SYSTEM VALVE AND HOSES FOR LEAKS AND PLUGGING.CHECK FOR SIGNS OF VACUUM LEAKS IN THE ENGINE OR COMPONENTS. TEST TP SENSOR SIGNAL DUE A SWEEP TEST AT KEY ON ENGINE OFF.
