Battery is not recharging. I have replaced alternator with a used one from a wrecker but the problem persists. I will do a voltage check (over 13 to 14 volts from alt) when I get a day off work. Could anything other than alternator cause battery to lose charge like this? Thanks, CHRIS 1992 Nissan Maxima

Hi, the voltage should be at least 14 at the battery with engine running. If the voltage is higher at the alternator, the charge wire or fuse is bad. If the voltage is good at the battery, the likely problem is a draw in the car. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

2006 jeep liberty putting out 13 amps. Should it be more?

Depends on the battery. What is the battery voltage when the engine is off? If it is below 12v, replace or recharge it.

Make sure that the gauge is accurate and the battery connections good and clean.

1999 yukon wont start, it sounds liketiming is off.

Check your battery voltage it should be 12 volts then start it and check the voltage coming out of the alternator it should be 13-14.9 volts. If the voltage coming out of the alternator is less than 13 volts replace the alternator. If the alternators voltage is within 13-14.9 then its time to replace the battery.

My car won't start I think it's the battery because it said eletrical problem and now it won't start at all.

It could be the battery. Check to see how old is the battery. Sometimes batteries have punch out dates listed on them to show when it was purchased. This will let you know how old it is and probably need to be replaced.

I replaced the alternator and the battery on my 2005 equinox...battery light stays on...how can i turn it off?

There's no reset for a battery light (alternator), check voltage at battery with engine running, that will be alternator out put voltage, should not read less then 13 volt's, also check voltage at back of alternator, on the big wire, should have no less then 13 volts also, if voltage is less then 12.6 volt's there, bad alternator, will have to be replaced again, if voltage is good there, but not good at battery, check for bad fuse or fuse link, hope his was very helpful.

I have no power to anything but it was working

first of all make sure you are getting 14 volts from alternator when running, at least 13 volts or more with engine off. if the readings are off, check alternator for replacement or repair. if the alternator fails it will not recharge battery. that is why your gauge is low reading. check voltage at battery with engine on then engine off.

Failure to recharge battery

Using a voltmeter check the battery for voltage (12.65 volts) then locate the alternator and check the large wire terminal on the back of the alternator for voltage with car running the voltage output for the alternator should be at least 13 volts if not replace the alternator.
