Did you get it timed correctly? You don't just replace them like a fan belt, there is a procedure and marks that you line up. Your engine may be a non-interference or interference which means that if your timing belt breaks your pistons may hit your valves and cause major engine damage. Non-interference means that when the belt breaks it won't interfere and cause damage. Interference means that it will. I don't know what engine you have in your car but if you call a dealer and tell them what engine you have in your car they should be able to tell you if it is a non-interference or interference engine.
Well if it was just your accessory belt that broke you didn't do any engine damage. Make sure that you have the new belt installed correctly so that things are turning the right direction. When you old belt broke did you overheat your car or anything like that? If so you might be looking at bigger problems. Look for broken or unconnected wires that may have been damages when the old belt broke.

serptine (belt) broke, replaced it now auto backfires... won't start
There is a huge difference between the Serpentine belt and timing belt/timing chain. The Serpentine belt runs the ac, water pump etc can be seen when you open the hood. The timing chain./belt is not visible. Replacing the Serpentine belt will NOT correct timing problem.
