It's officially called a CMP Syncronizer.
There are stern warnings on the page associated with this.
CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR Removal & Installation
CMP sensor is located on rear of engine, behind intake manifold. Before removing, note position of electrical connector on CMP sensor. Remove upper intake manifold. See UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD . Disconnect CMP sensor. Remove CMP sensor screws and CMP sensor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure CMP sensor electrical connector is pointing in original direction. Tighten CMP sensor to specification.
2 . Failure to use synchro positioner during installation will cause fuel injection to be out of time and may cause engine damage.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft when Synchro Positioner (T95T-12200-A) is positioned on CMP synchronizer. Armature tab will be damaged and synchronizer timing may be shifted. Removal
1. Position crankshaft to TDC of cylinder No. 1, on compression stroke. Note position of electrical connector on CMP sensor. 2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug harness connector from CMP sensor. Remove CMP sensor screws and CMP sensor from positioner. Remove synchronizer hold-down bolt and CMP synchronizer.
Fig. 2: Exploded View Of CMP Synchronizer Assembly (Typical) Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
CAUTION: DO NOT rotate crankshaft while synchronizer is removed from engine. Installation
1. Install Synchro Positioner (T95T-12200-A) on synchronizer housing. See Fig. 3 . Rotate synchronizer shaft until vane on shaft aligns with slot on synchro positioner. Rotate synchro positioner until engaged into notch in housing. Dip drive gear in engine oil.
Fig. 3: Installing Synchro Positioner On Synchronizer Assembly (Typical) Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
Fig. 4: Positioning Synchronizer For Installation Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO. 2. Rotate sychronizer assembly so that synchro positioner is 60 degrees counterclockwise of crankshaft centerline before inserting synchronizer assembly into engine. See Fig. 4 . 3. As synchronizer is inserted into engine, synchronizer will rotate. When seated, synchronizer electrical connector should be located in original position.
CAUTION: If CMP sensor electrical connector is not positioned correctly, DO NOT reposition connector by rotating synchronizer. This may cause fuel system to be out of time with the engine, causing possible engine damage or an engine misfire. Remove synchronizer and reinstall. See step 3 . 4. Install hold-down clamp and tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install CMP sensor to synchronizer and tighten to specification. Ensure CMP sensor electrical connector is in original position. Reconnect wiring to CMP sensor. Connect negative battery cable.

SOURCE: 2008 F250 WITH A 5.4

the cam sensor will keep the vehicle from starting, so if its starting then I doubt its a sensor problem unless there is a pinch in the wire, grounding out somewhere. but this will kill the engine as soon as it happens. and also a bad o2 sensor will only make the engine use more fuel, and kick on the service light... does it have a ticking noise, some of the early 5.4 in the f150 had a TSB for the cam phasers, which gave a p code for the cam sensor, and for some reason spit one for the bank 1 sensor as well. this is an ongoing problem with these 3 valve OHC 5.4 engines, I would suggest taking it to the dealer. im sorry I could not be of more help, but like I said this is an ongoing problkem I still have been tinkering with.

How do i time the cam sencer witrh the crank sencer ?

your question is realy garbled but I think you are asking about the timing of the cam and the crank sensors usually you have to have them both replaced at same time which means you can see the NO1 position on the cam and the position of the crank and thats with the cover off but I found out from another friend that if you go onto YouTube and request How To set timing on the Cam shaft and Crank shaft sensors you will get a video. MAKE SURE YOU SPELL IT ALL RIGHT OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT FIND IT. Sorry about the Caps but wanted your attention use my spelling. Good Luck

What is the funtion of cam shaft position sencer

Camshaft position sensor gives the position of cam related to the engine crankshaft which is useful for the fuel supply; ignition, injection, valve opening and closing system. Magnetic type sensor is used on the timing cover over the camshaft gear. Camshaft position sensor is same as that of crank shaft speed sensor in terms of construction and working. Cam shaft position sensor 350z

The Cam Shaft Position is behind the motor on passenger side and has a green cap with 2 little wires going to it .with a 10 mm bolt to take out now what most people on here did not tell is that it was hard to take the green cap off the sencer first because the clip is on the bottom so you cant see it to take it off and if you just try to take a flat head screw driver to it you will bust your green clip.so take the sencer and cap off together and then take the green cap off after you get the sencer out .ok when you take the 10mm bolt out then you can reach down and pull the sencer out but its pretty hard just to pull out your going to want to twist it but you dont have to you are just pulling against the rubber O ring thats on the sencer just pull hard and it will come out.then pull the cap off .you acually push in on the clip towards the sencer to get it off ,not down ,but towards the bolt hole ,to take off, repalce clip put new sencer on and put sensor in motor, dont wiggle around on the wires to much because they are little and I could see braking one if not both

Ok i have a cam sencer problen have replace sencer and magnet it still cuts the car off and showes the same code

Try replacing the "Crank Shaft Position Sensor" this two sensors "Cam" and "Crank" communicate so if one is acting up it sends the wrong signal to the computer, I recently had the exact same problem but in reverse and a different vehicle, the other thing, although not very usual is the wire harnnes that connects to the sensor itself could not be working properly. Good Luck!
