Keyless entry won't work

I have 2000 323CI and my keyless entry won't work. When I press the buttons, nothing happens. the fuel door locks when the door is manually locked. The doors will lock when manually locked but not when the keyless entry remote is pressed.

It's not that. the remote battery recharges everytime the key is used to start the car.

  • hodges_tracy Aug 12, 2008

It's the new key that is triangular shaped. I tried to reprogram the key and thought maybe the key died. I ordered a key key from BMW and that's how I found out that the key recharges itself and that there was something else wrong because the new key didn't work after the dealership programmed it.

I just purchased a 1999 323i 5 door and was given only one key. the remote won't work. I went to Halfords to purchase a replace battery but they said that if I insert it incorrectly I could immobilise the car! As I haven't even got a handbook or spare key for this car, I'm afraid to risk that. I'm not sure wether to purchase a new key from a bmw dealer (at great expense I suspect) or just put up with opening it manually, any advise?

I have a 1999 BMW E46 I have had a problem with the keyless entry myself. I brought the car to BMW Dealer and they told me that my Lock had an issue and that they need to repair some wiring wich would cost me $1,023.98 to find out that it was a fuse that burned out. I have replaced the 5 amp fuse with another one but it burned the fuse again so I put a 10 amp fuse and i have not had a problems since. In my car is fuse # 54 if Im not mistaken. But waht you can do is open the fuse box which is located in your glove compartment look for a diagram that shows you which fuse is where it will give you a fuse name a number where the fuse is located and how many amps fuse it is.

Try changing the battery in your remote

  • steve dbo Aug 11, 2008

is it a new or old clicker have u tried getting it reprogrammed i found a web site that has info on reprogramming remotes so other than this i have no idea - good luck

(This is for the 96+ alarms)

    Straight out of the book:

    Preparation
    1. Close all doors, trunk, and hood.
    2. The security system must be in 'disarm' mode. The key must be removed from the ignition key slot.

    Enter Code-Learning Mode
    3. Open the trunk and leave it open
    4. Open the driver's door and sit in the driver's seat.
    5. Close the driver's door.
    6. Cycle the ignition switch five times between the 'OFF' position and position 2, (ignition 'ON', all dash warning lamps will illuminate). The red status LED will illuminate continuously, and the siren will 'chirp' once, to indicate that the code-learning mode has been initated.

    Do not start the engine.
The ignition switch cycling in step #6 must be preformed within 45 seconds.

    Register/Delete ID Code(s)
    7. Open the driver's door, (remain seated in driver's seat).
    8. Close driver's door.
    9. Press and release any button on the remote you wish to register into the system. The status LED will shut off momentarily to indicate that one ID code has been registered.
    10. Repeat steps 7 through 9 to register the remaining three ID codes.

It is possible for the system to memorize a total of four different ID codes. As a new code is initalized into memory, the oldest code in memory is automattically deleted. If you had lost your remotes and wished to delete the lost remote ID codes from memory, you could initialize the ID code from a newly purchased replacement transmitter four times thereby deleteing the previous ID codes from system memory.

    Exiting Code-Learning mode
    11. Open driver's door, and exit from vehicle, leaving the door open.
    12. Close trunk.
    13. Close driver's door. The LED will turn off and the siren will 'chirp' twice.
    14. The initalization procedure is now completed; test all remotes to confirm operation.

2008 Volkswagen Jetta keyless entry & lock problems

If the system is not working even when you press the buttons on the door, then the problem is not with the remote control. I would first check if all the fuses are ok, if they are, I would check the wiring on the door to make sure there are no wires broken of chaffed. Focus first on getting the system working with the door buttons and after that is ok, the move on to the keyless system in case it still does not work. Hope this helps.

I have a 2000 ford mustang. Suddenly my keyless entry remote stopped working. I replaced the battery and turned the off and on 8 times and the locks cycled. after which i pushed the unlock but nothing...

The keyless entry system is controlled by the (GEM) - generic electronic module .
Keyless Entry The electronic door lock system has two main components:
  • generic electronic module (GEM)(14B204)
  • keyless entry remote transmitter (15K601)
  • NOTE: Battery power and ground must be remove before disconnecting the GEM connectors to avoid setting false codes.
Power Locks Operation The power locks feature allows the customer to lock and unlock the doors via momentary switches located on the driver and passenger door. When the GEM detects a momentary press of the driver or passenger lock button, the GEM will supply power to the driver or passenger lock actuators for approximately 250 ms from relays internal to the GEM. When the GEM detects a momentary press of the driver or passenger unlock button, the GEM will supply power to the driver or passenger unlock actuators for approximately 250 ms from relays internal to the GEM.
Remote Keyless Entry Door Locks Operation The remote entry feature allows the customer to unlock the driver door, unlock all doors, and lock all doors using a valid remote transmitter as long as the ignition switch is not in RUN or START. The driver door is unlocked whenever the GEM detects a valid remote transmitter unlock transmission. All the doors are unlocked when the GEM detects a second valid remote transmitter unlock transmission within three seconds of the first transmission. All the doors are locked when the GEM detects a valid remote transmitter lock transmission. If the GEM detects a second valid remote transmitter lock transmission within three seconds of the first transmission, the doors will lock again, the horn will sound for 20 ms and the parking lamps will flash for 200 ms to indicate the doors are locked. If the GEM detects the driver or passenger door is ajar during the second lock transmission, the doors are locked again and the horn is sounded twice. If the GEM detects a valid remote transmitter lock transmission within three seconds of detecting a valid remote transmitter unlock transmission, the GEM will lock all the doors

I have a 96 ford conversion van with a 600 plus addon keyless system and need to program new keyless remots , need to know how to get system in program mode.

Hi.

To program ( or reprogram ) a keyless entry remote transmitter into the remote keyless entry module, perform the following steps:

1. Turn the key to ON or ACC and short the two terminals of the program connector, a two-pin connector located below the driver's side of the instrument panel at the base of the steering column. All doors should lock and then unlock.
2. Press any button on each keyless entry remote transmitter in turn. All doors should lock and then unlock. If the door locks do not respond, press the button again (up to three times maximum with the same keyless entry remote transmitter). If the door locks still fail to respond, go to Pinpoint Test A.
3. Repeat Step 2 to program additional keyless entry remote transmitters into the remote keyless entry module (up to four keyless entry remote transmitters maximum).
4. Turn key off.
5. Remove the short from the program connector. All doors should lock and then unlock.
6. Verify that the keyless entry remote transmitters have been successfully programmed by pressing the LOCK or UNLOCK button on each one, and observing that the system responds by locking and/or unlocking the doors.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks!

Keyless entry on honda civic 2006 not working

The keyless entry is designed to work with the doors closed (closed - not locked). If the door ajar sensor thinks the door is open the keyless entry is disabled. When you manually lock the door it might tighten the door just enough to activate the keyless entry. I would try slamming all the doors closed and then see if the keyless entry works. If it still wont work have the wiring checked on the front door lock.
