I had the same code, p2187. check to the left of the throttle body(side facing the front of the veh.
there are 2 vaccum hoses going into the intake. the larger one on top has a spring clip holding it and if you look under that you'll see a smaller one with a check valve. mine was disconnected. plugs in under the larger one.
Your most likely cause is a failing primary oxygen sensor (that's the sensor before the catalytic converter) on the number one bank of the engine (whichever bank has cylinder #1 is bank one).
Hi I have the code p0455 and p2187 coming up i had the pc valve and gaskets replaced. When I put gas In my car It hesitates to start and i have to push down on gas to keep car from shutting off and this only happens when I put gas in car. I put new gas cap on that I bought from mazda.
I have the same issue with my 2004 Mazda 3. Did you ever find a solution? I have have 3 diagnostic checks and they still find nothing.
I had the same problem on my 06 Mazda 6i until I decide to replace the EVAP canister purge valve. Give it a try its very easy to get to

Happend to me on my mazda 6 and the mechanic said is was the cold air intake and he shut it off. He said its not harming the car but the car knows its not the stock intake and all o2 sensors are fine.
Have a mazda 3...codes po455 and p2187...please help
2003 Mazda 6 2.3L I had the same code. Found the hose that goes to the fuel regulator came off the intake manifold. I put it back on and the code went away.

The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty
or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" Air filters may cause the
MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with
some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to
protect the circuitry There could be a vacuum leak downstream
of the MAF sensor In the vast majority of cases, simply
cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's
location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with
electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage
the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses,
replace if necessary Check for a dirty fuel filter and
proper fuel pressure

I was told vaccum leak
I have the same check engine code P2187. I would like to know the simplest possibilities first that maybe I could fix. I am trying a new gas cap. I dont know if premium gas will make any difference but will try it. Can I get the code to reset if I disconnect the neg batt terminal?
I have this same problem. I checked around the throttle body to see if it was either of the two vacuum lines referenced above. It was neither on of these. I have heard anything from a simple vacuum leak to a purge valve to a fuel pump. Anyone know where to start first? Like most others I don't have $600 laying around for someone to tell me I have a simple vacuum leak... I have an 05 Mazda 3 / 2.3L with about 70k on the clock. I had the code read and it said there were 4 codes. p2187. p0455, p2187 (again and I don't understand why it read a 2nd time) and p2196. I'm assuming and hopefully optimistic that one is leading to the other codes. Just looking for some simple direction, please!!!!!!

I had the same code on my 2007 Mazda 3. Did the Purge Valve and code went away but came back. Mechanic did a detailed Diagnostic and it was the Intake Manifold Gasket causing air to get in. Had him replace the gaskets and so far so good fingers crossed.
