I want to add a keyless entry to my 1996 Ford Explorer XLT 2WD 4.0L and also a remote start. It does not have any type of remote for the vehicle right now I.E. alarm system. Is it possible to do a remote start and/or a keyless entry pad to my SUV?

Many models list this code on the production list of options on the cover plate to the spare tire/wheel...As a last resort, you can contact Ford, as the new owner and request the code directly from Ford...Most Ford Dealers are helpful to retrieve this also...you can check your system by pressing #8 then #9 on your door keypad, and this automatically locks all your doors. The vehicle security module controls keyless entry . There are fuse's that power the vehicle security module but not a fuse just for the keyless entry ! If your having problems with the keyless entry your going to have to take it to the dealer or an ASE certified repair shop . There is no magical fuse or cure.

The alarm box might be disconnected. I would locate it and trace the wires. Start under the dash behind steering wheel. It usually a little black box

The security computer box is in the cargo area open the rear hatch on the driverside behind the plastic is the box, it will have the keyless entry code printed on the side.

Did you check the start relay for voltage? Ohms reading?

If I remember correctly the circuit goes like this:
Key turns ignition switch which puts voltage to the start relay which engages the solenoid.
So if it isn't even clicking and your headlights seem to be working fine then it is either the ignition switch or the start solenoid coil.
On older Fords the start solenoid used to be remote mounted on a fender. I heard newer Ford vehicles had it integrated with the starter like GM does.
A quick visual inspection will tell you which and where you need to look.
You might check if there is a fuse for that as well.

It might be your anti-theft alarm system. When the car doesn't start, is there a ticking sound inside the car? If so, hit the unlock button a few times on your keyless entry remote, until the ticking stops, then try to start the car. Hopefully this helps.

Your best soulotion is to have your make and model and vin. number and take it to a good lock smith.

Yes, Fords have PATS system, which is what controlls your keyless entry. It is the computer for your key fobs and keyless entry. You might have tripped itby accident, and your only solution is to take it to a dealership or someone who has Fords reprogrammimg computer to have it reflashed.
