I have a 1990 jeep wrangler, 2.5l 4 cyl, it seems to have idling problems and severe hesitation problems when driving (almost as if the more I accelerate the more it sputters and slows down), but for some reason that problem comes and goes randomly. Normally when it is in it's hesitation mood the jeep shakes and almost stalls when I push the clutch in to come to a stop. I also noticed it was leaking coolant from around the oil pan gasket. I know it is probably a serious problem but I have taken it to many shops, had the TBI replaced and distributor cap, I just dont know what else to look for, or if that leak could be causing my engine to run like this. It only seems to leak coolant right after the jeep has been cut off, and it doesnt seem to be over heating but the engine does seem a bit steamy sometimes. Any help would be deeply appreciated!

if you just filled up i might be dirty fuel go get some fuel injector cleaner stp is good, lucas is better dump in your tank and cross your fingers you might have to start up a couple times.
It could be the pump but you need to verify if you can hear the pump running after it stalls and you turn the key back on to try and start it. If you don't hear it it isn't running. The pump is inside the tank but it dosen't come inside, you need to put it in there. That requires removing the tank. On a 90, there is a filter mounted on the chassis near the left rear tire. I'd replace that first as if you replace the pump, that should be replaced as well and if it's plugged up it may in fact be the only problem.
check the ground wirea at the dipstick tube, remove them all,and bend the ends of the wire, look for weak or broken wires, i bought several 4 cyl jeep that had problems at shift, fall on their face < after the engine settled back in to place,so wires made contact> just a thot. the ground wires are small the engine moves, when shifting.
