This doesn't sound like a transmission related problem. Unless you think the transmission is not downshifting properly to keep the engine in its power band.
There is a throttle cable adjustment that could affect shifting under a load.. but it doesn't sound like you have that issue.
You can drain and replace the ATF if you think it needs to be done..again.. depends on if it has been and when... change the filter as well. I think the original spec for fluid was Dex II, but nowadays most folks would recommend Honda ATF-Z1. Honda says it good for ALL Honda transmission past and present.
Most folks are amazed at what a simple tune up can do.
It sounds more like your car needs a good tune up or at least have the timing checked.
A complete tune up would involve plugs and plug wires (Depending on when they were last replaced if ever) fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor and air filter. Of course they would check the timing and inspect for vacuum leaks. Not to forget a decent educated poke grope and prod at belts, exhaust, shocks, wheel bearings, brakes etc.. a good shop will do all that as part of the tune up.. you may find a good private Honda mechanic that will do a complete fluid change oil tranny radiator.. tune up etc.. probably save you some money having it all done at once.. and ask them to test drive it before and after.
Depending on mileage.. valve lash may need adjustment.
It sounds like the transmission is slipping a bit. A total change of fluid / filter / screen would be a good idea. WARNING: Avoid the transmission flush service most service stations offer. It will **** up metallic pieces from the pan into the transmission itself and will be a problem down the road.
A complete refill (completely empty the lines) take 6.2 quarts of ATF. Pennzoil Multi-vehicle ATF will work for your car. If you want to use a synthetic, use Mobil 1 Synthetic Multi-Vehicle formula.
Well as far as the trans filter and fluid they make a import blend for honda and toyota autozone carries it made by castrol and they are fairly easy to change as far as your power issue try doing a tune up on it
if it helps would you mind giving a thumb up review
