Turn the key forward a notch then it should come out. If you are turning the key all the way off it enables the accessories (radio etc), locks the key in the ignition and disables the gear shifter.
If thats not the case then there is a button to be depressed so that the key can turn anticlockwise>off another click and the key can be removed.
It'll be one or the other....faulty ignition lock is the only other diagnosis

The door switches are built in the latches on each of the doors, they are pron to sticking, leaving the security module to beleive the door is open.
The simple fix is to spray a generous amount of WD40 on, in, and around the door latches, then opening and closing the door a few times. I would start with the passenger door as`this is likely the culprit. do the rest of the latches as a prevenitive measure.
Hope this is of some help.

SOURCE: I have a leak in the passenger side floor boards
Common problem in Chevy's. I'll tell you what it is. The seal between that black piece of plastic on the windshield near the hood and the windshield itself has come loose, and water runs down the windshield into the space, right into the car. 100% sure about this, I put a piece of clear tape over the black plastic piece one rainy day and got no water at all. Would recommend sealing it back up with some silicon or something.

I would check the assembly itself. Where the pigtail plugs in, make sure that the elements are not burnt or corroded.

You probably have a bad door switch that is located in the door latch. If the vehicle tells you which door is ajar I would try a good penetrating oil first and if not replace that door latch. It will take a bit of working the latch before it will start to work if thats all it is so have some patients with it.
