The pickup can cause that if the advancement plate is allowing the pickup to touch reluctor or there is shavings stuck to the pickup that is shorting the air gap out.

1991 dakota intermittently stalls or will not start after being run for 30 minutes or more of running.

When it does this you need to check if you have voltage ( spark ) going to the end of the spark plug wire, but it sound to me like your pick up coil is going bad, pick up coil sit under the distributor cap under the distributor rotor same size as distributor assembly ( black ) cheap$$, good luck, hope this was very helpful.

1998 dodge dakota 4x4 5spd 3.9l-cfank but wont

Do you have spark?
Do you have fuel?
Which are you missing?
TIP.A quick check for spark.........give it a spray of starting fluid....if it runs....you've got spark.
No spark usually means......a bad coil or ignition module on the 3.9.
No fuel is usually caused by a bad fuel pump.

I had a problem with the trans going into reverse. I had the Torgue converter replaced, some type of pump in the trans replaced, a complete seal kit and new thrust plates. Seems to work fine so far. I have an 06 dakota 4x4 V8. Luckily all replaced under warranty
