Apparently the serpentine belt was thrown off my 1998 Mercury Mystique. It appears in good condition. Should it be replaced or can it be reused? Also, do you have a belt diagram? Thank-you.

You can reuse it. But you need to find out why it was thrown off. Check all the pullies by grabbing them and checking for side to side movement, With the exception of the power steering pump pulley (which has some in and out play) they all should have no play. Just turn in nice smooth circles. Sorry I don't have the diagram, but there should be one under the hood. Sometimes on the bottom of the hood.

Hi, the belt can be reused, but you need to figure out why it came off. Check all pulleys for play and replace any accessory that has a loose pulley.

How to replace serpintine belt on 1999 mercury mystique 4 cyilender

first make sure you have the correct belt for the application. then make sure you are installing the belt the correct way, going to and around the correct pulleys. there should be a decal under the hood somewhere that shows the routing of the belt it may still be there and not missing.

Do you need to replace the timing belt when you change a water pump for a 1998 mercury mystique v6?

You don't have to replace it but you have to take the belt off to remove the water pump for the extra $30.00 i would recomend changing the belt too, unless the belt has been changed less then 20,000 miles ago .

Replacing the belt tensioner and serpentine belt in a 1999 mercury mystique but the belt is still loose how do I get it to tighten

You either have the wrong belt, or it's not on correctly. Make sure all of the pulleys are secure. (Like the power steering pump support bracket isn't loose) The diagram for the belt is usually under the hood.

Is the serpentine belt and the timing belt the same thing?

Your serpentine belt and timing belt are not the same thing. If your serpentine belt breaks, you will lose your alternator, your cooling system, air conditioning, and your power steering. In turn, it will leave you stranded in a very short period of time.

98 Mystique serpentine belt replacement to by pass A/C compressor

Good news...if you've got the 4 cylinder model, O'Reilly Auto Parts has a belt made by Gates Model #K060806. If you have the 6 cylinder model, it's Gates Model #K060623. I'm guessing you tried AutoZone first...I hate AZ for this reason alone. Anyways, hope this proves useful. Have a great night!
