Was driving down the road ,engine was running great then started to die like it had bad gas. Took fuel out of tank and replaced with new fuel with heet added to it. Cleaned fuel filter out. Engine will idle fine no misses at all . As soon as you give it the gas it will start to die or miss very badly .It will not pick up rpms even if petal is on floor. When you let off the gas petal it will return to a idle running smoothly. It sounds like a firing problem rather than a fuel one. Need help done all I know how to do for this problem , Not sure what to do next. Bill
Ok theres a pcv valve located between the carb and the valve cover. its screwed into the intake manifold. make sure it is hooked up. also check for any vacuume leaks. if you find any cracked hoses, replace them.
also for the guy whos sami sputters on turns. check the ground stud located above the battery on the firewall. if its loose or corroded clean it up and tighten it.check the ground strap coming from the distributor area between the engine and firewall. make sure its in good shape. alot of times the distributor o rings leak oil on the wiring and rot it out. thats easy to repair also. check your engine mounts by standing on one side of the hood and grabbing the engine and pulling it side to side. the mounts are known for wearing out. they are fairly easy to replce and cheap. about 20 a piece if not less.

I solved my problem it ended up being the third spark plug had got fouled out by oil. Now I don't know whether or not it's the ring on the third cylinder or the head gasket that fouled it out. The way I found out was pulling off each spark plug wire while the engine is running. The one that doesn't make a difference in the way the engine runs is the culprit. Watch out while doing this wires have up to about 40,000 volts(enough to kill you). Keep your hands away from the ends of the wires. Also if you don't get a spark(which you can hear[popping noise] or see) then it may be a coil or distributor. May or may not be the same problem but its worth a try.
Those symptoms are pointing to the timing. Check your timing. When I rebuilt my 1.3 from an 88 sami, I put the distributor back on 180 degrees out. The symptoms where the same as you described. Corrected the timing and all is fine.

I have the same problem mine runs fine at idle and when I let go of the gas pedal but misses and has very little power when I reve it up. tried a new fuel filter, timing belt, distributor cap and rotor; no difference. Checked spark plugs which I bought a week ago they where still good. I'm going to try new coil, wires, and fuel pump when I get paid. Then I'll try the distributor if all else fails. Could also be a carburetor issue too. If you do figure it out let me know please. Thanks
I ahve a 1988 Samurai that when I make a sharp left turn it stutters and shimmies. To get out of the road I pump the excellerator and it lunges. I loosen the gas cap, hit the carb with a rubber mallet and it starts running again. If I hit a big bump the same thing happens. It sounds like the float is sticking. I get different degrees of excelleration at different times.
as you are going uphilland give more gas for power it dies. after a while it will start up and you can go a little ways before it does it agan.
