Does the fuel filter on a 1998 Ford Escort ever need replacing? The owner's service manual doesn't require it.

All fuel filters If servicable need to be replaced. Some are in fuel tank and not servicable but yours should be external

The fuel filter does need to be changed, approximately every 30,000 miles / 24 months, whichever comes first.
