Have you not checked fuel pressure
or done one of about four or five fuel
pump tests

Talking about it, won't resolve the issue

Holding the gas pedal to the floor will cause the PCM to put the fuel injection system into clear flood mode , cutting the amout of fuel going into the engine . Pumping or pushing on the gas pedal while cranking the engine over does nothing but allow more air into the engine , it's not giving it more gas . The computer has a set program it follows at start up . It's not like a carburetor ! Fuel pressure regulator .

If you are saying you think the fuel pump is loosing pressure when the engine is off, then yes the check valve is in the pump. But it could also be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator.
A mechanic would check the fuel pressure at the engine and find out if it is dropping off.

Not sure what state you live in, but if smog systems are not inspected there have all the smog equipment removed. The parts are mostly obsolete because of lack of demand, once they go bad most people simply remove them.

check fuel pressure regulator.+ vacuum lines going to it look see if gas in vacuum line.if so regulator rupture.

Switch should be in trunk. I believe L/S ( toggle type of switch stating fuel/cutoff )

fuel regulator or fuel pump may be going out, sounds more like regulator!!

your fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds with the key on, unless it is running. Safety reasons. It runs during starting all the time, and all the time if engine is running.
check fuel pump relay in driver kick panel and inertia switch reset in trunk. Se owner manual for info.

1998 ford escort sport engine started making a tapping noise and engine light started flashing. Had oil and water at normal level.
