First of all before you spend a lot of money with computer mechanic or personal machanics
try a little trouble shooting yourself. My sons neon would not start it started out as beinging a intermittent problem 1. It had a very old battery we replaced it seemed like this sovled the problem it started and ran for a couple of weeks, then same problem. This seemed like it may be a wiring or inition problem, jumped from the + batt. to the starter relay coil w/ key turned on it started every time was thinking it was the inition. Tried one more thing switched A/C relay w/starting relay in engine compartment fuse box. wa la no money for the greedy mechanic.

2002 dodge intrepid clicks and wont start

it is not uncommon for a failing starter to make a click noise, but check other things before jumping into that, clean the battery terminals, have the battery tested, make sure you are getting power to the starter and have a good ground.

99 dodge intrepid will not turn over

Hello,

When a car doesn't turn over at all, it is usually a dead battery, dead starter, or a ceased engine. The first thing I would do is bring the battery and starter to a place like Autozone or Advance Auto to have them tested for free. Check the oil to make sure you have some in there. Driving with no oil will cease your engine and leave you with a $500 tax deductible donation of your car.

I hope this helps.

It sounds like the engine is seized due to oil starvation.
The starter if changed will still not turnover the engine.
The engine must be rebuilt or replaced with one without the oil starvation and seized bearings.

When i turn the key to the on position it makes a clicking sound is than the starter and the head light will not come on

Sounds like a dead battery. Do your interior lights come on? Does your horn work? I have a 2000 Intrepid and changing the battery was a real pain in the ****.

How do I replace the starter on a 2000 Dodge Intrepid?

Before changing a starter, you need to do some testing. First, check that your battery is holding 12v or better. Next, check that there is 12v at the main connection on the starter. Then chjeck that with the key turned to "start" there is 12v at the small terminal on the starter. If not, check the relay that operates the starter.(it may be bad). If readings are good, and block ground and positive cable is connected and clean, replace starter.
To remove starter, disconnect positive cable from battery, unbolt starter, remove harness. Sometimes removal involves twisting unit and manuvering around stuff that's in the way. If you find that does not work, then remove whatever is keeping it from coming out. Yes: it comes out from underneath. (unless you see an obvious clear path to remove from above there is no set rule, just do what's easier) Replacement is the opposite of removal...no tricks. If your radio has an anti theft code, know it before you start or after you are finished it won't work. You will loose settings though.
good luck
