1995 nissan pathfinder starter will only click after several tries will finaly ingageput new starter same problem new pos and neg cable same problem any ideals

  • Anonymous Oct 22, 2008

I have a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder 2x4. For about a month it would not start up right away on occasion it would just click and then usually start up within a few minutes... until finally one day it would not start at all just click once. if you unplug the wires near the battery and put power directly to the starter it starts and runs fine i was unable to totally trace where the other wire went to but from what i could see the wire/plug seemed to be in fine shape.... any ideas of what to look at next?

Take it to the dealer. I had the same thing with my 1994 pathfinder. There's something else
wrong and they found it, replaced it and I've not had any problem. It was an easy problem for
them to solve. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the part they replaced. If I find the name I will
email it. to you.

Starter spins correctly when I hook pos to neg and neg to pos

Sounds like someone has changed the starter recently and they have the negative cable from the battery hooked up to the starter solenoid. You need to have the positive cable hooked to the starter solenoid not the negative cable.

I replaced the battery terminal cable ends. Now the car will not start, There is a clicking noise from the starter.

Bad connection on cable ends or where they connect to battery. Quick check is if you have a good set of jumper cables, use the jumper cable as a replacement for what maybe the defective one. Hook negative cable good to battery neg. post and then put other side on neg cable to engine ground on block. See if it cranks, if it does than the trouble is on the neg. cable. If not then put positive cable on pos. post of battery. Then put other side of pos. cable on the starter post, try to start. If it cranks then the trouble is on the pos side of cable. Hope this helps.

My 97 Pathfinder won't turnover. It clicks, it gives one push but then does nothing. It starts when I jump it and after it's charged for a while, but when it's been sitting it's like t

could be poor connection from battery to battery cable terminal. take off both pos. & neg. battery terminals, clean & reinstall, making sure there is a tight connection. if the cables are loose (even just one) or if the battery cable seems degraded with corrosion, they should be replaced. could also do a load-test on the battery... it should stay strong under load, and shouldn't drop to below 11 volts under load. if it does you have a bad battery, even though it may seem good otherwise.

Click when trying to start

Sounds like battery and battery cables full of resistance and battery may need replacement or charging.

2000 silver, 4.3 v-6, got in my truck turned the key...got all the inst. lights, radio, but only one click, and nothing else. tryed several times...only one one click each time. motor is in exe shape,...

Might want to check for a loose battery cable, could be either at the battery for both (+/-) or the starter, for the pos. or where the ground (neg) cable is bolted.

Good Luck

87 Pathfinder Starter

I had this problem and replaced the ground cable.
easy to check with jumper cables connect one to your neg battery post, and the other to your engine block. if it starts normal replace the cable.
