Hello, I have a 2006 tacoma. For some reason, my airbag light is on all the time, but the horn and the cruise control both work OK. I went to a dealership and they told me the clockspring was bad and I have to change it. Can the clockspring be bad if both the horn and the cruise control work?

You may have a faulty brake lamp switch at the brake pedal. If the brake lights come on (via a bad switch), the cruise will cut off.

SOURCE: Air Bag Sensor light on & horn not working

Without knowing exactly what the air bag code is, coupled with the known fact that the horn is inoperative, my opinion for a viable solution is to replace the spiral cable or, as commonly called, the "clockspring". This device is the main wiring connection between the steering wheel and the wiring harness. If the circuit(s) open, due to a failure of the spiral cable, the air bag light will be on, the horn will not work, and , if you have a steering wheel Cruise control, it too may be inoperative. Best solution: replace the clockspring. Best advice: Get the airbag DTC's checked, and if you have an open in the driver side air bag circuit, the clockspring is def the culprit. Given that you had chassis work, your DTC just may be the front crash sensor, and the horn may just be unplugged, or bad, This is the best I can do for you, given the info that you have provided,
Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa.

SOURCE: Horn/lights on 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Rewire your horn from the steering wheel to the horn. Its not difficult, I can't tell you how to take the steering wheel apart but you can get a Haynes Repair Manual. It'll have all you need and more. You can use speaker wire, split it in two. Run one cable from the positive in the battery to the horn switch in the steering wheel. Another from the switch to the horn. You have a short somewhere, to me is easier just to run new wires than to find the short-circuit. Make sure when you run the cables through the firewall you run through a grommet so it does not get damaged by metal. Before anything check your headlight wires that they are not touching the horn.

SOURCE: 1999 toyota avalon horn works intermitely

I would suggest to you to have the spiral cable (or 'clockspring') replaced. This is the electrical unit that transfers power to the air bag, the horn and the cruise control.

It is located right under the seering wheel.

Your description of the issue indicates to me that your spiral cable is loose, and making intermittant contact. If the vehicle had an air-bag deployment, this cable-device should have been changed.

Horn doesn't work, abs light on dash stays on and also cruise control does not work either

Typical reason for no cruise and horn is a bad clock spring underneath the airbag. Typically you have an airbag light on as well and not an abs light

Probably a bad clockspring a device in the steering wheel that control the airbag. Have abs system scanned for codes.

Why is the air bag light keep coming on?

the most likely reason is the clock spring it controls the cruise the air bag the horn check if all of that is working but most likely the problem is the clockspring. I do not recommend changing it youself b/c of the chance of injury from airbag if it blows.

The horn and cruise control doesn't work, fuses are

sounds like a bad clockspring. located in steering column under steering wheel, operates airbag, horn cruise etc, it make wire connection possible so the wheel can spin, its a roll of flat wires, that unroll and roll up as steering wheel is truned from left to right, wires break after a while.

Airbag light flashing

As long as the light is on the airbag system is disabled.

I would suspect that your clockspring behind the steering wheel is going bad. I would have someone with a scan tool that is able to retrieve trouble codes from the airbag system check it for codes to verify this. If so then steering wheel and steering column trim would have to be removed to access the clockspring to replace it.

Horn on my 1999 Ford Taurus

does your cruise control work? the reason is that there is a what is called a clockspring harness in the sterring wheel under the airbag, if your airbag light is flashing chances are this harness is broke and will need to be replaced,  The airbag, horn, and cruise control all go throught this clockspring harness.

Horn,airbag light,cruise control

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MAY BECOME DISABLED DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE HUB OF THE STEERING WHEEL. Consequence Summary: THIS CONDITION WILL MANIFEST ITSELF THROUGH ILLUMINATION OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP, AND COULD EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A DRIVER'S AIR BAG OPEN CIRCUIT, IF THE PART IS NOT REPLACED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY ON ALL COVERED VEHICLES WITH 70,000 MILES OR LESS. FOR THOSE VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 70,000 MILES, DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL OFFER AN EXTENDED LIFETIME WARRANTY UNDER WHICH IT WILL REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING AT NO CHARGE IF IT FAILS. DAIMLERCHRYSLER WILL ALSO REIMBURSE OWNERS WHO HAVE PAID TO HAVE THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED ON THEIR VEHICLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 12, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403. A malfunctioning clockspring can also effect your cruise control, radio, wipers, and your horn relay. This can also happen one at a time til none of these are working. The solotion is to get the clockspring replaced . I DO NOT suggest you doing this on your own!
