The nut that holds the tensioner on is under the alternator and would be much easier to remove with the alternator out of the way.

I just reinstalled the serpentine belt on my 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan. The trick to getting the tensioner pulled into position was to use a 15mm wrench on the tensioner axle nut. To get the proper leverage I used a ratcheting cargo strap hooked to the wrench on one end and the strap across the front of the vehicle and underneath to the frame. Tightening the cargo strap pulled the tensioner down into position and it was safe and easy then to finish putting the belt in place with both hands.
