I have a 1999 toyota rave4 manual stick, having problems with shifting when car is running, i have to pull of in 2nd gear to go to 3rd, 4th, can't seem to get fifth on highway. then other times i can go from 1-5 without any problems after waiting for about 5 minutes of trying. when the truck is turned off i can get all gears smoothly. then at other times i have no problem, i was sitting in drive thru and i hear a pop noise, after that i wasn't able to shift from first to second, waited then it worked, after driving for about 30 minutes i have the same problem all over again, have to pull over, cut truck off and put in 2nd gear, hard to move from 1st to second.

SOURCE: truck wont move in gear [manual trans] why?

push the clutch pedal all the way and see if the slave cylinder pushrod is going out at least an inch, if not replace the slave cylinder, if it does goes out, sad to say but you have problem somewhere else inside your clutch assembly

I have a 94 Tercel - 4 speed on floor. I cannot put it into 4th gear without it popping out. I was told it needed a new shift cable. This car apparently has 2 cables. One for 1st and 2nd and one for 3rd...

Any car I ever had which had manual shift and was popping out of gear meant that it was time for another transmission. A junkyard can tell you what years and models of toyota transmissions will fit.
Yes they usually have two shifter cables, pull the console and look under your shifter.

Have 1989 Lincoln Town Car. Transmisson will not shigft from 3rd to 4th gear. Only car drive about 25-30 mph. thanks

Are you sure the trans is in 3rd. Pull the stick into low gear accelerate shift to 2nd about 20 mph shift to 3rd about 35 mph then 4th about 50 mph. This will let me know how to go further with your problem. If you do this proceedure write the results on this Great FixYa Page!

Only runs in 1st and 2nd gear and reverse.

This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line
, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

1999 Chevy Tracker - Manual Transmission Issues

Sounds like a bad countershaft bearing. The trans will need removed and disassembled to fix it.

'99 wrangler has trouble shifting to 2nd gear - 4th gear occasionally slips to neutral

If you can see where the shifter goes through the floorboard, make sure the shifter is not hitting the floor.
There could be interfierence under the car also.
