Clean Throttle Body and MAF. Check spark plug condition and gap.

Could be a thermostat that is not opening all the way,causing the engine to run hot,or the water pump is bad.

Interesting as smooth idle and sputter are contra-indications.
- Smooth idle should be healthy
- Sputter could indicate problem:
- mis-fire? Possible bad spark plug or bad exhaust valve. Pull spark plugs to check to see if any are fouled. Compression check will help depermine why fouling is happening.
How many cylinders?
How many Km on engine?
With engine hot, Remove oil filler cap and see if any vapour indicating blow by (bad rings)

What year is it? Your symtoms suggest oil contamination from bad fuel pressure regulator.

I would replace no 4 injector or at least swap it to another position to see if it is the injector or the wiring to the injector.

This sounds as if you have a vacuum leak, check all the lines and check the intake. There are a lot of things that will cause mis fire. mis fire code is triggered when the ecm reads a very slight difference in the time the crank sensor picks up a signal. Mis fires can be from electrical, vacuum, mechanical, and eletronic sources. If you can get it to a person/shop that read which cylinder are misfiring this helps alot, narrows the field. Let me know I can help. Also it helps to know what engine we are dealing with

The flashing is telling you that the engine is mis-firing, the dealer will run a test to determine the cylinder that is mis-firing, chances are it is something simple
