I have a 2004 Suzuki Verona that the key will go in the slot but will not turn. The steering wheel is locked. I have had 2 different locksmiths out and both have been stumped. Do you have any suggestions? How do you get the ignition out?
Have you tried moving the steering wheel from right to left while trying to turn the key, I know the wheel is locked but it will move slightly, sometimes this allows the key to turn, used it many times on cars with your problem, mostly it works. I would also suggest spraying a little WD40 into the lock cylinder, there may be a stuck lock pin. If all this fails remove the plastic steering column covers and replace the lock assembly, once you get the ****-shell covers off you will see how the whole thing is removed.
Listen I'm no expert and the people that are claiming to be experts should be ashamed of themselves. The problem with the key locking up is the key cylinder is bad. Just changed that and your problems are solved.
Most times the steering wheel locks the ignition and keeps it from turning and also makes the ignition wafers sticky, try pulling the steering wheel away from the locked side, somewhere in the middle and turn the key, if that doesnt work, with your left hand hold the key in place while holding the steering wheel in the neutral position, not all the way locked, and with your right hand use a rubber handle screwdriver and tap the key into the cylinder, the vibration will unstick the stuck wafer, keep tapping on it 5-10 times then try turning it, remember you are holding the key in with your left hand while tapping with your right hand, this is an emergency fix only. DO NOT USE WD 40. it will innitially unjam locks but more rapidly attracts dirt debris to enter the lock being petroleum based acts as a magnet. and your ignition will fail permanently. once your ignition is unjammed, you must lubricate the stuck pin, the only thing that is not affected by weather is graphite powder, it can be purchased at napa usually for 5 bux, poof some in and run the key in and out 50 times then try to put key in and turn multiple times, the more you put the key in the more it lubricates. you can poof in several times in between using the key 50 times it dissapate it. do not over pack the ignition, bad idea, a little and work it, a little and work it. I have been a 24/7 locksmith for the last 14 years and that will work, if it starts sticking after the graphite replace the ignition, these can only be purchased already pinned to a different key but can be rekeyed by a locksmith to your original key code, provide the locksmith your vin number and he can get a key code from dealer and voila one key fits all.
I have had the same problem. It wants to do it occasionally but I have found that pulling back on the key slightly and up it turns every time. It is silly that it has this quirk and it cost me a tow truck bill and the wrecker guy is a friend and worked with it until he found the combination to make it work.

I have the exact same problem as you described above. Did you get it figured out yet?
Thanks.
Same problem...
I have a 2005 Suzuki Verona and for the last year I've been experiencing many ignition lockup problems, recently in the last few days my ignition locked and will not unlock. I've had mechanics look at it and many family members also. No one has seen an issue like this before. I called Suzuki and was told to attempt and lock the steering wheel and then unlock it and the vehicle should start up. This only caused more problems because now my vehicle's wheels are turned and make it harder for tow trucks to pick up my vehicle. I am currently looking for a solution to my problem, any help would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail is [email protected]
Just ran into the same thing on my 2004 Verona. Still looking for any advice that isn't here. Trying to avoid a costly dealership tow. I parked at a bank with no problems and came out to find I could not turn the key. It is not the steering lock, tried a second set of keys, put it in neutral and pushed it around, nothing seems to get it to budge.
I had the same problem today, key goes in the ignition, but doesn't turn. The tow truck guy that came to help said he sees this a lot in Chevy's. He jiggled it a little, and got the key to turn and the car started. I'm hoping this won't be a problem again, because although the tow truck driver was helpful, he wasn't all that bright, and didn't do a good job of describing how he got the key to turn and how I could take care of this problem is it happens again.
