Low oil pressure light came on engine madee noise and died will not start but makes growling noise whe n trying to start

The oil light has nothing to do will oil level, but rather oil PRESSURE. If the engine oil is full and there is no rattling or banging noises in the engine, chances are the oil pressure sending unit is bad. If noises accompany the light, then shut down the engine and troubleshooting the engines internal lubrication system.

If the car died and then the oil light came on than that is normal. If you lost oil pressure the light would come on and the engine would continue to run for a little while until it seized up. If this where the case it would have made a lot of noise and you would have felt a gradual loss off power until the engine finally stopped. I suspect the oil light came on after it stalled. If this is the case the first thing to check would be spark or fuel pressure. Crank sensors and fuel pumps are the two most common issues that would cause the engine to stall.

It may be the oil pump. If the gauge is going up when the rpms increase it's probably not the gauge or pressure switch. If the computer senses the oil pressure is low it will shut the vehicle off to try to save it's self from catastrophic failure. Also it may start cranking longer before starting. Thats it building oil pressure before the computer will let it start. Make sure oil is full, clean & thick.

is the oil level good/full? if so your oil pump may have gone bad and dropped the oil pressure and causing the noises in the engine. I would suggest not driving the vehicle until you have it checked out.

Likely your husband was correct.....up to a point. Lifters often become noisy when your oil pressure has dropped. If the oil level was very low that can do that, or, more often than not the low pressure is from a bearing inside the engine being very worn. Either way, from what you've said the news is bad.
Sounds like you completely lost a bearing. That requires a complete rebuild or replacement of the engine.

oil pump gears inside the lower engine, or electrical. 1st make sure its full on oil, then sheck it with another pressure guage to confirm its not actuall pressure.

Only 1.5 qts low would not shut the engine off. It sounds like your oil pressure sending unit needs to be replaced. If the Oil pressure sending unit reads less then 8 psi or thinks there is less then 8 psi the ECM will shut the engine off. It's a simple fix and the sending unit is on the drivers side behind the distributor on the engine block. You can pick one up from Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the unit. As long as there was no bad noises coming from the engine when it shut down, it should be a simple fix. If there was any bad noises coming from the engine, then your oil pump may have gone bad and will need to be replaced and hope nothing else has failed or have gotten damaged due to lack of oil pressure. ur oil pump may be failin-there r sensors everywhere on new cars-keepin u from starting as safety measure-computer systems r complex n things dont always show on 1 scan-they kinda hav the mindset of a pc
