Check the basics first: fuse(s), relay, look at any wiring going to fuel pump under vehicle and inspect for broken or damaged wire. If all else looks fine, then more than likely need a fuel pump.

1998 v8 eddie bauer ford explorer does not start at all

Does the engine turn over? If the starter is turning the motor, then your issues are going to be no fuel, no spark. If not fuel means that your fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter is bad (common issues first). If you have fuel and no spark then your coils are bad, crankshaft position sensor, cam shaft position sensors are bad. Are there any check engine lights on? If so read the codes with a scanner. If not, then you are going to have to check electrical with a multi-meter to see what the problems may be.

Replaced fuel pump, and it starts now but runs

I would next check the fuel pressure regulator if the pump was not pumping, or the filter was plugged some of the leftover waste in the lines from one or the other of these issues may have plugged the regulator causing inconsistent fuel pressure that would cause the engine to run rough, or possibley cut out fuel entirely, causing the vehicle to die

or
Go get an inline spark tester. (Harbor Freight 3 bucks) If there is spark in the plugs then it is probably the fuel pump. Check\replace the relay first. If that not it then your fuel pump is probably bad. If you know how you can check the fuel rail pressure with a gauge to see if the pump is working. You can try to listen for the pump. You have to listen real close. Get inside the vehicle (close the doors)and put your ear to the floor in the cargo area. Have someone turn the key to the second click right before starting it. You should here it pressurize the fuel lines. If you done hear this then your fuel pump is bad. I hope this helps.

Getting fuel wont start

If you can, have the computer scanned for active codes. Always check for fuel and spark. with fuel injection it isnt enough to know that the pump is running you need over 35 psi, line pressure. Let us know.
