It is normally indicated by an "L & 2" or 1 & 2 on the shifter. It is the lowest you can pull the shifter. If your counting the positions, position 1 is Reverse, position 2 is Neutral, position 3 is Drive, position 4 is Second gear and position 5 is first gear, assuming you start counting from park.
Thanks for your comment. I cant put it in
"L". It seems to be locked or jammed .Do I have to have it in park or can I do it while driving. Just wondering if there is a trick to it? I have counted gears and stuff be for i posted comment
No trick. You can do it from any position, don't recommend from reverse does bad things to the tranny. If while you are going under 10 miles an hour you go from drive to L and you don't feel the transmission kick down, and you should feel it. Then you have a transmission problem that will need to be looked at. I'm sorry if that ends up being the case. It maybe something easy like an adjustment though. You won't know until you have it looked at. Are you just trying to check to see if it is going or using that gear? Normally you don't really use that gear unless your towing something that puts a heavy enough load on the vehicle to trigger the low gear solenoid. In fact, in the 15 years I drove caravans I don't think I ever used L even going through the Colorado /New Mexico Hills traveling to and from Colorado springs and San Antonio Texas.
Based on your response to the other poster it sounds like your linkage maybe out of adjustment or the shift solenoid for L is not working properly.
